Bio
Dawn Chambers was born in London, England, long before personal computers, lived in New Mexico for many happy years and is now pursuing a PhD in composition at Stony Brook University, Long Island, as part of a constructive midlife crisis. While in New Mexico she accompanied every kind of musical ensemble you can imagine, wrote music for Native documentaries, ran the music part of the Albuquerque Mayor's Arts Summer Institute, and spearheaded the flower-planting program at the University of New Mexico. Now she is finding out how to write better music, and making weird vocal noises into the bargain. She is in the throes of composing a chamber opera entitled "Sex in America". Her recent compositions include "On the Subject of Birds" for orchestra, "Sketch" for alto saxophone, "America Deserta" and "Spinstersongs" for voice and piano, and "Foure Harpsichordes Theyre Rompe" for, yes, four harpsichords. Her great loves are dancing, driving about in her old Toyota truck, the outside world and all its creatures, gossiping in several languages, and powwows. She is obsessed with Mongolia and is planning to take a Mongolian language course in Ulan Bataar, then cross the Gobi on a horse, in 2008. She owns land in the Datil Mountains and hopes to get back to the West very soon. With luck she will spend the next couple of decades helping undergraduates enjoy all kinds of music. -

I had never heard the 4-harpsichord piece until today....surprising, since you wrote it across the hall....
Nice piece!
