Interests
General
Recently, I've reapplied myself to getting physically fit and maintaining that for both my girlfriend as well as for my upcoming 20-year class reunion this July. Over the past several months I slacked off a bit but I've nonetheless lost several pounds in recent weeks. Last Spring and Summer I lost about 30 before gaining it back which was disheartening but now I'm back in "the zone".
I actually watch what I eat now emphasizing organic and natural products and ingredients and cook for myself as often as possible instead of always eating processed food.
I walk a lot as my primary form of cardio exercise.
Collecting and Reading Books although I do little of the the former anymore, but need to resume the latter.
History and archaeology but in particular Israelite, Assyrian, Babylonian, Hittite, Philistine, Egyptian, Minoan, Greek, & Roman History. Yes, I'm a dork.
Paleontology but in particular the last 100,000 years here in North America.
Geology, but in particular geohazards i.e. natural disasters.
Rockhounding and beachcombing which are my oldest loves.
Collecting Gems, Minerals, Fossils, Artifacts, and Other Oddities. In other words, I'm a "rockhound"!
Outdoor/Nature Photography & Videography esp. weather (thunderstorms in particular) & other interesting natural phenomenon like fires and big surf at the coast.
I like to chase and observe interesting natural phenomenon like thunderstorms and Pacific storms and fires and such.
Listening To The Public Safety Radio Scanner.
Collecting & Watching Disaster Videos. Yeah, I know I'm real weird.
Collecting & Wearing Hawaiian Shirts. I wear 'em year around pretty much.
I'm a college football freak and proud of it!
Watching movies. I love science fiction and war movies and historical movies and western movies and manly movies in general.
Men are from Mars. I am man. Hear me roar. ARGH!
Listening to good music.
This is an old addiction I renewed in 2001.......
........and it brings us to the next section of my profile.......
.. ..Music
Holy Crap! This will be long and involved.
In general I like all sorts of music or put in Stuck-Up Speak: I appreciate a wide array of musical genres.
I love Rock & Roll (of course). Same with a lot of the sub-genres of it like Pop, Adult Contemporary and Electronica.
I really like some Classical and some Jazz.
I also like some Country but none of this newer Pop-Country Crap though.
I don't care much for Christian Contemporary (soul-less whitebread).
I love Gospel Music (black by popular demand).
I've discovered World Music more recently as I have Electronica and am rather taken with it, too.
CLASSICAL (this includes modern highbrow music and movie soundtracks):
Andrea Bocelli ~ "Time To Say Goodbye" - (breathtaking duet with Sarah Brightman)
Bond ~ These girls rock and I mean in more than one way. If you've seen and heard them you know what I mean.
Boston Pops ~ Ever seen their Independence Day Concert Extravaganza in combination with the fireworks on the river? Best show that day anywhere. I plan to make a pilgrimage there for it someday.
Charlotte Church ~ As much as she is a spoiled little brat who put her foot in her mouth right after 9/11 diminishing the FDNY firefighters, we still love her voice don't we? Does anything give you goosebumbs like her "Pie Jesu"?
Ennio Marricone ~ Italian composer who did the incredible scores/movie themes for the "spaghetti western" classic Man With No Name Trilogy and the western epic Once Upon A Time In The West.
Henry Mancini ~ "Moon River"; "The Pink Panther Theme"; "Baby Elephant Walk"; "Mystery Movie Theme"; "Peter Gunn"
John Barry ~Composer who did the scores to the classic James Bond movies including the famous theme music.
James Horner ~ Composer who did the scores/movie themes to the Star Trek movies.
John Williams ~ Oscar-winning conductor/composer who did the scores/movie themes for the first Star Wars Trilogy, Jaws, E.T., and Raiders of the Lost Ark to mention a few.
Josh Groban ~ "The Prayer"; "You Raise Me Up"; "To Where You Are"
London Symphony Orchestra ~ They did the Star Wars music. Need I say any more?
Luciano Pavarotti ~ Isn't his rendition of "Nessun Dorma" one of the most damned beautiful things you've ever heard?
Maureen O'Flynn. You hear her voice on Operatica's first album. Her "Melancholy Rose" is gorgeous.
Renee Fleming ~ I think she is even better Sarah which is saying something. Then again she is more of a Classical Opera singer whereas Sarah is more of a Pop Vocalist. Listen to Renee sing "O Mio Babbino Caro".
Russell Watson a.k.a. "The Voice" - Doesn't his "Nella Fanasia" give you goosebumbs? I mean I'm not admitting to it or anything but I just wondered if it did for you. ;-p
Sarah Brightman ~ Not too shabby. Didn't you just love her collaboration with Schiller in their song, "I've Seen It All"? I also love her in "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "Time To Say Goodbye".
Three Tenors (Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras) ~ If you haven't listened to them before then I command you to do so at once!
Three Mo' Tenors ~ If you haven't checked 'em out before then get to it at once! They're a tongue in cheek black version of the Three Tenors but don't think they're a joke because they're for real.
COUNTRY (back when it was still actually country music and not this pop crap):
Hoyt Axton ~ "The Yellow Rose of Texas"
Jerry Reed ~ "When You're Hot, Your Hot"
Jimmy Dean ~ "Big Bad John"; "The Cajun Queen"; "Little Bitty Big John"; "P.T. 109"; "Sam Hill"; "I Won't Go Huntin' With Jake (But I'll Go Chasin' Wimin')"
Johnny Cash ~ "Hurt"; "A Boy Named Sue"; "I Walk The Line"; "Ring of Fire"; "Folsom Prison Blues"
Kenny Rogers ~ "The Gambler"; "Coward of the County"; "Lady"; "Islands In The Stream" (with Dolly Parton)
Willie Nelson ~ "On the Road Again"; "Always On My Mind"; "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" (with Julio Iglesias); "Seven Spanish Angels" (with Ray Charles); "Highwayman" (with Waylon Jennings/Johnny Cash/Kris Kristofferson)
ELECTRONICA(this includes ambient and trance):
Just about anything from Ministry of Sound and Trance AllStars.
Art of Noise (They defy categorization, but here will do) ~ "Moments In Love" or as I would describe it the musical score to a sexual encounter. Don't believe me? Go listen to it! Other good songs by them include: "Dragnet '88" (from the 1988 movie soundtrack); "Kiss" (vocals by Tom Jones); "Paranoimia" (with Max Headroom); "Peter Gunn"; "Robinson Crusoe"; "Instruments of Darkness"
ATB "The Teutonic Trancemaster" ~ "See You Again"; "Love Will Find You"; "Let U Go"; "9 p.m. (Till I Come); "Too Much Rain"....... His albums Movin' Melodies and Two Worlds rock!
ATC ~ "Around The World (La La La La La)"; "My Heart Beats Like A Drum (Dum Dum Dum)"
BT ~ "Mercury and Solace"; "Remember"; "Sunblind"; "Dreamin'"; his wonderful remixes of other artists work.
Faithless ~ "Liontamer"; "Insomnia"; "We Come One"; "Tarantula"; "God Is a DJ"; "The Long Way Home"; "Salva Mea"
Ian Van Dahl ~ "Castles In The Sky"; "Try"; "Nights On Java"; "Tomorrow"
Jan Johnston ~ If she's singing the lead vocals I'm listening to it.
Lustmord ~ "Deep Calls To Deep"; "Deep Calls To Dub"; "Black Star"; "Stange Attractor & Black Star"
Miss Jane ~ "It's A Fine Day"
Moby ~ "First Cool Hive";"Hymn"; "God Moving Over The Waters"; "Alone"; "Novio"; "The Rain Falls and the Sky Shudders"; "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die"; "Grace"
Olive ~ "You're Not Alone"; "Miracle"

Robert Miles ~ "Children"; "Red Zone"; "One and One"

Taucher ~ "Winterlove"; "Pictures of a Gallery"; "T Factor"; "Bizarre"; "Alright"; "Atlantis"; "Bells of Avalon"
Tiesto ~ "Magic Journey"; "In My Memory"; "Just Be" (The song you hear right now); "A Tear In The Open"; "Love Comes Again"; "Walking On Clouds"; "Adagio For Strings"; his many wonderful remixes most notably his In Search Of Sunrise remixes of Delerium's "Silence" featuring Sarah McLachlan and Conjure One's "Tears From The Moon" featuring Sinead O'Conner.
GOSPEL (not a lot here, but I'm pickier about my Christian music):
Mahalia Jackson ~ THE ONE AND ONLY! She sang Gospel with the heart and soul of the Blues. "Jesus Met The Woman At The Well"; "Joshua Fit The Battle Of Jericho"; "Elijah Rock"; "Walk Over God's Heaven"; "Great Gettin' Up Morning"; "Down By The Riverside"; "Trouble Of The World"; "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen"; "What A Friend We Have In Jesus"; "Didn't It Rain"; "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands"; "Get Away Jordan"; "In The Upper Room"; "Come On Children, Let's Sing"; et al
Darrell Hammond ~ He's my favorite contemporary Gospel artist. You should check him out.
LOUNGE MUSIC (vintage):
One of my prized possessions is the entire Ultra Lounge collection. This is one of the coolest music collections I have ever encountered and the liner notes are not only informative and insightful but have some of the funniest things to say about music and pop culture I have ever read.
David Rose & His Orchestra ~ "The Stripper"; "Gay Spirits"

Martin Denny ~ "Quiet Village"; "Exotica"; "Swampfire"; "Harlem Nocturne"; "Hava Nagila"

..Movies
Gawd I love movies.
This is no doubt an incomplete list as there are most certainly some movies that belong on here that I cannot recall at the moment that I will add later.
Here's the list for now:..
A Bridge Too Far ~ Flipped by it on TV tonight and had to stay and watch some as it's just too compelling.
A Christmas Story ~ Darrin McGavin rocks as The Old Man in this movie! He just died yesterday, by the way which really sucks. Peter Billingsley rocks as our young protagonist Ralphie!
A River Runs Through It ~ I am so haunted by this Robert Redford-directed and narrated movie and so love it but it makes me so sad as I see so much of my own family situation in it and the ending of it so scares me since I fear that is what will happen in my family. The musical score is also hauntingly beautiful.
Abbott and Costello movies ~ Any of 'em. Also, their Who's On First? routine rocked!
Alien ~ The greatest sci-fi movie ever made (IMHO)and a great horror classic as well. Sigourney Weaver becomes Ripley for us in this movie. The artistic design of the alien and alien ship come courtesy the strange Swiss artist H.R. Giger.
Aliens ~ Wonderful sequel that wasn't one bit a step down from the original, but simply a different type of movie: action-adventure. As usual, Sigourney Weaver rocks as Ripley again!
Alien 3 ~ Not as good as the first two but still very good. The darkest and most atmospheric of the Alien movies which is really saying something. Sigourney Weaver rocks in the role of Ripley with the usual result. Be forewarned:the ending is not upbeat in any way.
Alien Resurrection ~ Better than the third, but not as good as the first two. Sigourney Weaver reprises her role of Ripley but with a new twist. Oh, and she rocks like never before. This one incorporates more dark humor than the first three.
Anzio ~ Robert Mitchum rocks! There are so many memorable parts of this movie that I just love so much. Apocalypse Now ~ Haunting and disturbing war movie set in the Vietnam War, but actually a late 20th Century re-working of Joseph Conrad's likewise haunting and disturbing early 20th Century novel "Heart of Darkness." What great casting this movie enjoys and likewise what unforgettable scenes it contains! Army Of Darkness ~ Bruce Campbell rocks! Camper than camp! Beetlejuice ~ Michael Keaton rocks as the title character with so many memorable lines and scenes. This movie was Winona Ryder's "coming out" and we've been captivated by her ever since.
Behold A Pale Horse ~ Anthony Quinn rocks in this haunting and melancholy tale centered in the Spanish Civil War with a Gregory Peck character as his nemesis.
Beneath the Planet of the Apes ~ This is my favorite out of the entire franchise which I liked overall. This is the one with the post-apocalyptic sunken downtown NYC scenes which I find so haunting. It also has that creepy scene where Charleston Heston's character and his mute consort encounter the Statue of Liberty mostly buried along a coastline with the just the upper part sticking up out of the ground as a consequence of a then long ago nuclear catastrophe.
Big Jake ~ My favorite John Wayne cowboy movie. Blade ~ Wesley Snipes rocks in all three! The second one was great I thought. I haven't seen the third one but I plan to ASAP.
Blade Runner ~ One of the darkest and most brooding and atmospheric sci-fi movies I've ever scene. There is a haunting quality to this movie and something melancholy about the attraction between Harris Ford's human character and Sean Young's counterfeit human character.
Blazing Saddles ~ "Let me just whip this thing out..." ;-p
Casablanca ~ What a classic! The atmosphere and mood are wonderful not to mention the characters.
Cat Balou ~ Hilarious movie! Lee Marvin rocks as the perpetually drunk gunfighter. Jane Fonda looks great in her outfit. Nat King Cole sings repeatedly throughout the move as part of a two-man chorus that rocks.
Charade ~ This is one of the two most elegantly sexy movies ever made with the other being To Catch A Thief! Carey Grant and Audrey Hepburn rock!
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind ~ What a great sci-fi yarn by Steven Spielburg. Don't you just love that now-famous five-tone greeting to the aliens?
Cocoon ~ Awesome sci-fi flick that makes you feel good. The old men rock! Worth watching just to look at Tahnee Welch. ;-p
Conan The Barbarian ~ Ahnold rocks! James Earl Jones rocks! I love this movie! I can't use too many exclamation marks about it!!!
Conan The Destroyer ~ Much more of a "B" movie with inferior production values and a weaker cast and yet I still love it. Worth watching just to look at Olivia D'Abo. Grace Jones and Wilt Chamberlain rock!
Cyborg ~ Dumb movie? Yep! Do I absolutely love it? Yep! Jean Claude Van Damme rocks! Vincent Klyn rocks even more as baddy Fender Tremolo!
Cyborg II ~ Was this movie even dumber than the first one? Yep! Did I like it, too? Yep! Is Angelina Jolie in it? Yep! Does that make it worth watching? Yep!
Dead Pool ~ Ah likes 'em all. Dirty Harry movies that is. Lot's of cool quotes came from them. "Do you feel lucky, punk?"..."Go ahead, make my day!"..."A man's gotta know his limitations."...etc. This movie was my favorite though.
Die Hard ~ Bruce Willis rocks! I like the second movie in the trilogy as well, but can't get with the third one as much even though it is okay.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ~ What a charming and intelligent and dare I say "cute" comedy! Michael Caine rocks!
Doc Savage: Man Of Bronze ~ This movie has been largely forgotten but it is a great movie and well worth tracking down and watching if action/adventure flicks are your thing. Ron Ely rocks as Doc Savage, a character originally in novel form but the makers of this movie do a great job adapting him to the big screen.
Dr. No ~ You can add to this one the rest of the movies in this franchise that utilized the real James Bond (Sean Connery). The other guys were/are posers.
Duel ~ Steven Spielburg's first movie and a gem at that. Dennis Weaver plays our intrepid everyman hunted by a seemingly driverless gas tanker truck.
Earthquake ~ Corny 70's disaster flick but I still love it. The earthquake scenes for the main shock are exceptional given the special effects technology available at the time.
Enemy Mine ~ Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett, Jr. rock! Hauntingly beautiful and atmospheric sci-fi "message" movie. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial ~ This was one of the first movies I ever saw in a theatre...it's a long story how that happened. As a kid I loved but I must confess I haven't seen it as an adult so perhaps I'd view it differently now
Excalibur ~ This is the dark and brooding 1981 movie retelling of the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Nicol Williamson rocks as Merlin and the best interpretation of him ever done on the big or little screen.
Firefox ~ Cool Cold War movie with Clint Eastwood as haunted hero whose a Vietnam Vet aviator stealing a Soviet prototype jet fighter. Ghostbusters ~ Fun movie! I loved Ray Parker, Jr.'s hit "Ghostbusters" from the movie soundtrack.
Hang 'Em High ~ Clint Eastwood rocks! Interesting flick!
Harvey ~ What a charming movie! Can anybody watch it and ever say "Harvey" without subconsciously or consciously doing a Jimmy Stewart impersonation of it?
Heaven Knows Mr. Allison ~ Great flick! Robert Mitchum didn't get an Oscar for it but his female co-star did...I shay he was wobbed!
Hell In The Pacific ~ Yeah, that's the one where Lee Marvin pees on the Japanese soldier who is his archenemy on the island they were both stranded on.
Hoosiers ~ A beautiful, moody, inspiring, melancholy movie I highlyl recommend. Gene Hackman, Dennis Hopper, and Barbara Hershey rock!
House ~ William Katt rocks! A quirky horror movie along the lines of Army of Darkness. I liked the sequel, as well.
Imposter ~ Gary Sinise rocks! This was a captiviting movie that really grabbed me with an interesting plot with cool twists. Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark ~ Can you imagine how the movie would have turned out if the original actor tapped to play Indiana Jones had accepted the role? I refer of course to Tom Selleck. I also loved the next two movies in the franchise.
Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom ~ No let down in this one from the previous one which is rare. Another great flick in the Indiana Jones franchise. Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade ~ Yet another great addition to the Indy franchise. Sean Connery is great at our intrepid hero's pop.
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (John Carpenter version) ~ I really like this version of this movie and highly recommend it to anybody who likes science fiction. The original was pretty darned good, too.
In The Heat Of The Night ~ Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier rock!
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World ~ What a classic! Incredible cast of characters played by an all-star cast. The plot isn't too shabby either. Lot's of movie scenes at various locations around SoCal which are fun to see so many years later.
Jaws ~ Another Steven Spielburg gem and one of the best movies ever made, IMHO. My favorite scene is the one where Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw are bonding in Shaw's boat at night and trading shark stories and comparing scars and at every step trying to One-Up each other when the shark suddenly arrives and attacks the boat damaging it.
Jaws II ~ Another great movie that wasn't that much of a step down for a sequel but clearly not the same caliber as the first but good nonetheless.
Lawrence Of Arabia ~ What an amazing and beautiful movie! And they didn't need computer generated graphics to make it feel "big." The landscapes in the movie are breathtaking and otherworldly.
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome ~ I like the other two previous movies in this trilogy, but this is my favorite. Mel Gibson and Tina Turner rock!
Midnight Run - If you don't like the language in this movie well then "F" you! ;-p
Midway ~ I Kind of view this as the sequel to Tora! Tora! Tora!, but with Big-Name actors and character development but not overdone; a great flick!
Monsters, Inc. ~ Clever and cute animated flick by Disney.
Mr. Roberts ~ Henry Fonda, Jack Lemon, and James Cagney rocked! The ending sucked but at least that was realistic as bad endings and main characters always die in real life unlike in too many movies.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding ~ What a cute romantic movie!
Night Of The Comet ~ A great END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT flick, replete with canabalistic zombies and a supersecret para-governmental organization with ostensibly benevolent motives that turn out to be more malevolent ..r inspection. Gosh, nobody ever thought of that plotline.
No Time For Sergeants ~ Andy Griffith rocks as a Forrest Gump-type in the military long before there was Forrest Gump.
Notorious ~ Carey Grant and Katherine Hepburn rocked! Alfred Hitchcock was no slouch either.
Omega Man ~ Charleston Heston rocks! Another fun Post-Apocalyptic movie. Inspired by the Richard Matheson novel I Am Legend.
Once Upon A Time In The West ~ The greatest western ever made and not coincidently it was made as a tribute to all the significant westerns ever made.
Patton ~ When I first saw a photo of the real Patton I thought to myself, "He doesn't at all look like Patton."
Pitchblack ~ Vin Diesel and Claudia Black rock! Great sci-fi flick I like almost as much as the Alien movie franchise which is really saying something! Filmed at Coober Pedy, Australia, where a lot of other sci-fi flicks have been filmed due to its otherworldly landscape and where the residents live comfortably underground in the opal mines.
Planes Trains & Automobiles ~ Those aren't pillows! Hilarious movie but with a surprisingly emotional and tender end.
Poultergeist ~ "They're heeerrr!" If you didn't have a clown doll phobia before, you will if you watch this movie.
Predator ~ One of my favorite movies, period. The entire cast rocks! The sequel wasn't nearly as good but was okay, just the same. Queen Of The Damned ~ The late Aaliyah actually did great in this movie in the title role of Queen Akasha, the original vampire and mother of all vampires. The movie was great and really grabbed me. Rambo: First Blood ~ Sly rocks! I loved the first one and liked the sequels but they weren't the same quality as the original.
Robin Hood (Errol Flynn version) ~ Errol Rocks! Rocky ~ I love the first three, particularly the third one with Mr. T as Clubber Lang, but the fifth one sucks.
Rooster Cogburn ~ What a charming movie (and character).
Running Man ~ Ahnold rocks! I love this movie!
Salem's Lot (David Soul version) ~ Scary movie! The creepiest scene in this movie is when the boy is lying in his bed and the window is open and it's foggy outside and all of a sudden and vampire boy floats up to the window and peers inside.
Screamers ~ Peter Weller rocks! Dark, brooding, edgy, and atmospheric sci-fi movie.
Shrek ~ Funnier and edgier animated short by Dreamworks SKG which even took a clever shot at Disney in the movie. Did you catch it?
Since You Went Away - Beautiful but melancholy movie I watched in the middle of the night and it's haunted me ever since.
Stand By Me ~ This is an American Classic and the best Coming Of Age movie ever and one of my favorites of all time.
Stargate ~ Kurt Russell rocks! What a great sci-fi movie that is much better than the TV series which isn't too shabby itself.
Starman ~ Jeff Bridges rocks! I found this movie hauntingly beautiful along with its musical score. Oh, and likewise, it is better than the TV series it engendered which was not too shabby either.
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan ~ Ricardo Montalban rocks! Khan Noonian Singh is the coolest villain after Darth Vader! I really loved this movie, but also The Search For Spock and The Undiscovered Country. Star Wars: Episode II-The Attack Of The Clones ~ This movie is better than Episode I and yet not as good as Episode III. This one delves into the forbiden but beautiful love affair between young Anakin Skywalker and the lovely Padme Amidala and we begin to see the darkness that lurks in Skywalker's heart like a snake in the grass. I was surprised that Lucas was able to make the love affair look so good on the screen the two actor pull it off well from their end. Star Wars: Episode III-The Revenge Of The Sith ~ My favorite of the newer movies and the one that most contains the spirit of the first three that were produced. Now we get a great view into the heart of Darth Vader and understand how he got to where he did. After watching this movie I realized for the first time that the entire six movie epic is really the story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and how he metamorphosed from a cute little blond boy into a horrific monster of a man and in that context he really becomes a tragic figure and everybody else is simply a supporting character in the story. Star Wars: Episode IV-The New Hope ~ As with Episode V, I never had the privilege of seeing this in a theatre but I was blown away by it when I saw it on Showtime or wherever back in 1983 or thereabouts. Star Wars: Episode V-The Empire Strikes Back ~ I never saw this one in a theatre which I regret but I surely have enjoyed it on VHS/DVD. Another wonderful movie in the Star Wars franchise!
Star Wars: Episode VI-The Return of the Jedi ~ This was the first one in the series I actually saw in a theatre and I have a special bond with it. The story is great as George Lucas is one of the best Hollywood storytellers ever and the special effects were amazing at the time and still hold up to today's standards.
Superman ~ This was a great movie. I never would have cast Christopher Reeve for the title role but for some reason he just works so well in the roll that in my mind he IS superman.
Superman II ~ I absolutely love the three Supervillains (General Zod, Ursa, & Non)in this one and their battles with Superman. The epic battles between them and our hero are great!
The Big Red One ~ Lee Marvin rocked! He was a real vet of WWII, too! They just came out with a new DVD release of it with lots of previously edited material and I have it but like a schmuck haven't actually sat down and watched it.
The Birds ~ One of Alfred Hitchcock's best movies IMHO. Filmed at Bodega Bay, CA. Melanie Griffith's mom Tippi Hendren (who's much prettier and classier than her famous daughter) co-stars with Rod Taylor and they rock!
The Blues Brothers ~ Jake and Elwood rock! One of the funniest movies ever made. Have you ever seen more famous people in a movie?
The Bone Snatcher ~ A really good sci-fi monster flick!
The Breakfast Club ~ For a Brat Pack movie this one had a lot of soul.
The Crimson Pirate ~ Burt Lancaster rocks! Nick Cravat co-stars as Lancaster's diminutive acrobatic mute sidekick.
The Dirty Dozen ~ Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson rock! Jim Brown even found his way into it.
The Flame And The Arrow ~ Burt Lancaster rocks again! Nick Cravat co-stars again.
The Fog ~ I refer to the John Carpenter version, of course, and not the recent one. What a great ghost story this is. I highly recommend it. Adrian Barbeau rocks and she's...um...hot as always. Don't you love the way John Houseman says, "The Elizabeth Dane"?
The Ghost And Mrs. Muir ~ What a beautiful, but bittersweet old movie! The Goonies ~ What a charming movie with a little something for everybody.
The Great Race ~ Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon, and Natalie Wood rocked!
The Green Berets ~ I don't care if it&..39;s jingoistic. I still love it, dammit!
The Hunt For Red October ~ Another rockin' Cold War flick with a haunted guy but played by Sean Connery this time and he's a Russian.
The King And I ~ An incredibly beautiful movie in which Yul Brynner rocks and Deborah Kerr is as sexy as she ever was!
The Lady Eve ~ Barbara Stanwick rocked! A cute romantic comedy!
The Lord Of The Rings Movie Trilogy ~ I am so pleased these did justice to the novels by the late J.R.R. Tolkien. I found these movies hauntingly beautiful and mysterious just like the novels. They were filmed together as if they were one big movie released in three parts which was a great idea not only fiscally, but for the seemless flow of the movies and it eliminates losing any actors from one movie to the next.
The Man With No Name Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars/For A Few Dollars More/The Good, The Bad and the Ugly) ~ Gawd I love these spaghetti westerns! Clever and gripping. Perhaps not American Originals but to a certain degree they capture the spirit of the Old West (or parts of it anyway) better than the Classic American Westerns. The West really was a nasty and morally ambiguous place with more shades of gray going to black than black and white.
The Milagro Beanfield War ~ Yet another beautiful Redford-directed movie. This one was especially warm and "cute" if I may heterosexually use that word to describe a movie. ;-p
The More The Merrier ~ Hilarious romantic comedy from the 1940's.
The Mummy ~ I really enjoyed both movies in this franchise. Brendan Fraser rocks!
The Natural ~ Robert Redford outdoes himself in this one I think. The musical score is hauntingly beautiful.
The Nutty Professor (Jerry Lewis version) ~ Buddy Love rocks! The Eddie Murphy version just doesn't compare even though it was cute in it's own way.
The Pink Panther (Peter Sellers version, not the current cheap knock-off) ~ "Have you seen dee minkey?" The Princess Bride ~ "HELLO! MY NAME IS INIGO MONTOYA. YOU KILLED MY FATHER. PREPARE TO DIE."
The Quiet Man ~ What a wonderfully charming movie. My favorite John Wayne movie, too.
The Shining ~ Jack Nicholson rocks! This movie, like Alien or just about any Alfred Hitchcock movie uses keen intellect and top-notch story-telling to scare the hell out of you as opposed to over-the-top violence and gore and CGI.
The Shootist ~ Wayne and Bacall rock! A great movie but dark and bittersweet. Wayne's "swan song".
The Silent Movie ~ How can anything so silent be so loud?!
The Silver Streak ~ A wonderful movie! Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor rock and have such great on-screen chemistry. The Terminator ~ Ahnold rocks! Very dark and brooding which I like. I saw the sequel which was okay, but not in the same league with original. I have not seen the third one.
The Thing (John Carpenter version) ~ I love this movie and highly recommend it to anybody who likes science fiction or action/adventure movies. As you would expect Kirt Russell rocks!
The Thirteenth Warrior ~ The entire cast of this one rocks! Another compelling LOTR-ish movie like Willow that I really love.
The Wild Bunch ~ Dark and edgy even by today's standards. Was given a "R" rating for violence which was very unusual at the time.
The War Of The Worlds (original) ~ I'm NOT referring to the Tom Cruise version. This was a very cool movie that I think still holds up somewhat. To the degree it doesn't makes it camp.
Three Mules For Sister Sarah ~ Same spirit as the Man With No Name movies, but with better production values. Shirley McClain plays a whore masquarading as a nun.
To Catch A Thief ~ One of the two most elegantly sexy movies ever made. Carey Grant and Grace Kelly rocked!
Tora! Tora! Tora! ~ Classic example of why less is more. No BIG-NAME actors and obnoxious character development (like Pearl Harbor); just the facts ma'am, than you.
Towering Inferno ~ Another 70's disaster flick but less corny. Of course it was less corny; Steve McQueen was in it. Of course so was O.J. Simpson.
Tremors ~ I really liked this movie a lot. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward rock!
Two Minute Warning ~ I liked it so there. The climax of the movie occurs during a game at the Coliseum and next door at Exposition Park in Los Angeles so what's there not to like?!
2001: A Space Odyssey ~ Trippy movie and VERY atmospheric. Not everything is to be "gotten" in this flick.
2010: The Year We Make Contact ~ A good sequel. Roy Scheider rocks!
Underworld ~ Kate Beckinsale rocks! She can have my children anytime! I just saw this for the first time recently on TV and was blown away by it. It really grabbed me and it will do the same to you.
Westworld ~ Yul Brynner rocks as The Gunslinger.
What A Wonderful Life ~ I realize we've all seen it a million times but I don't care, I still love it.
Where Eagle's Dare ~ Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood rock! Intelligent and clever plot for a war movie.
Willow ~ Val Kilmer rocks! Dungeons & Dragons-esque movie that feels very LOTR-ish but predated LOTR.
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory(Gene Wilder version) ~ The new one isn't too shabby but it's not the real one.
Young Frankenstein ~ Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman rock!
Young Sherlock Holmes ~ A really cool movie with great special effects for the time and an intriguing plot and good casting. ..Television
I don't watch nearly as much TV as I used to but I have plenty of favorites from the past and not a few from the recent past and present, too, which are as follows:
TELEVISION SERIES:
Adam-12 ~ Cool show from back when the LAPD still had a sterling reputation.
Air Wolf ~ Laughable plot line but I still enjoyed it.
Baa Baa Black Sheep ~ Robert Wagner rocks as Col. "Pappy" Boynington this underrespected WWII drama.
Bat Man ~ Camp fun!
Battlestar Galactica(both series, but much more so the new one) ~ Unlike the original series from the 70's which had great special effects and lousy scripts and character development, this one has it all and is indeed, as some assert, the best TV series on the air currently.
Beauty And The Beast ~ Hauntingly beautiful and soulful show. Ron Perlman rocks as Vincent and Linda Hamilton rocks as Catherine Chandler!
Beakman's World ~ Clever and intelligent science show for kids. Consequently, I never watched it, ahem! ;-p
Bizarre ~ We got Super Dave Osborne from this show.
Bonanza ~ The Ponderosa was the Brokeback Ranch. Where were the ladies? ;-p
Coach ~ What a great cast of characters! Craig T. Nelson rocks as Coach Hayden!
Columbo ~ "There's this one last little thing that keeps botherin' me....". Peter Falk IS Lt. Columbo!
Cops ~ Low-Life Central. Foremost thing one learns on Cops: when somebody "swears to God" then they are lying through their teeth.
Dear John ~ Jere Burns rocked as Kirk Morris!
Emergency! ~ This show made me want to become a firefighter! I'm currently watching season two on DVD and I'm surprised it still holds up despite the fact season two was first aired in the Fall of 1972.
Family Matters ~ Steve Urkel rocks! I think I have my own Inner Urkel. ;-p
Farscape ~ One of my biggest guilty pleasures. Yep, I'm proud to be a "Scaper".
Father Dowling Mysteries ~ Tom Bosley rocks in the title role of this much-cooler-than Murder She Wrote TV series. Tracy Nelson plays the hottest nun ever who would threaten the vow of celibacy of any priest she workeed with and certainly inspired my first nun fantasies. ;-p
Faulty Towers ~ John Cleese rocks!
Get Smart ~ "Would you believe I was THAT close!?"
Gilligan's Island ~ Who was hotter? Mary Anne or Ginger? Gilligan died recently.
Hawaii Five-O ~ "Book 'em Dano!" Jack Lord rocks as Lt. Steve McGarrett!
Hercule Poirot ~ David Suchet IS the diminutive Belgian detective.
Hunter ~ Stephanie Kramer as Dee Dee McCall is hot!
In The Heat Of The Night ~ Carroll O'Conner rocks as Chief Bill O. Gillespie! The actor Alan Autry who plays Capt. Bubba Skinner is now da mayor of Fresno, CA. The actor Hugh O'Conner who plays Lt. Lonnie Jamison and was the real-life son of Carroll O'Conner, died of a drug overdose in 1995. Actor Howard E. Rollins, Jr., who plays Chief of Detectives Virgil Tibbs died of lymphoma in 1996. Carroll O'Conner died in 2001 of a heart attack caused by diabetes. The cast of the show sure seems to have been cursed, including Alan Autry being mayor of Fresno. ;-p
Ironside ~ What a wonderful show! Raymond Burr IS Chief Ironside and nobody else ever will be. Elizabeth Baur rocks as Fran Beldon and she's oh so hot!
Jake and the Fatman ~ William Conrad rocks as "Fatman" McCabe. My mom thought his sidekick Joe Penny who plays "Jake" was hot.
Kojak ~ "Who loves ya baby!?" Telly rocks as Kojak!
Kolchak: The Night Stalker ~ Fun forerunner of X-Files.
Kung Fu ~ "Grasshopper, what do you hear?"
Laurel and Hardy ~ "Another fine mess you got us into, Ollie!"
Lexx ~ Absolutely wicked and ruthless editorials on the human condition and satires of modern culture.
Magnum P.I. ~ Tom Selleck rocks as the title character! You had to love John Hillerman as Jonathan Higgins III!
M.A.S.H. ~ Fun irreverent show that still holds up now and is still relevant.
Max Headroom ~ Kimmy likes it!
Miami Vice ~ Of course cops dress like that and drive around in sports cars!
Mission: Impossible ~ "Good morning, Mr. Phelps...."
Monty Python's Flying Circus ~ "Now for something completely different."
Moonlighting ~ Loved the sexual tension between Maddie and David.
Mork & Mindy ~ "Mork calling Orsen, come in Orsen!"
Murphy Brown ~ Another great cast of characters.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 ~ Yet another guilty pleasure! You must watch their send-up of The Legend of Boggy Creek II. OMG it's hilarious!
Night Rider ~ So I admit to this one, too! So did you!
Our Gang/The Little Rascals ~ I always loved these short films.

SCTV ~ The only castmember I still see on TV or in movies is Eugene Levy.
Sherlock Holmes ~ The late Jeremy Brett WAS Sherlock Holmes.
Sledge Hammer ~ "Trust me. I know what I'm doing."
Star Trek (Original Series) ~ I'm a dork, but I think the original series still stands up to today after all these years. Star Trek: The Next Generation ~ Great show, but lacking the soul of the original series.
The A Team ~ So I admit I watched it! Sue me!
The Addam's Family ~ Quirky fun!
The Andy Griffith Show ~ Deputy Fife rocks!
The Beverly Hillbillies ~ The Clampetts rocks!
The Big Valley ~ The Barkleys rocked!
The Bionic Woman ~ Lindsay Wagner rocks as Jaime Sommers!
The Dukes Of Hazard ~ Come on guys! Let's admit it. We all watched it so we could gaze dreamily at Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke in her really tight short shorts. Oh, and she's the REAL Daisy!
The Greatest American Hero ~ I loved the "scenarios" and "Magic Jammies". William Katt was cool as Ralph Hinkley, but Robert Culp utterly rocked as Bill Maxwell! Of course the best reason for watching it is that Connie Selleca is in it. ;-p
The Incredible Hulk ~ "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!"
The Invaders ~ I was a fanatic of this show when it was in reruns after school in 1983.
The Munsters ~ Grandpa died recently.
The Outer Limits(original series) ~ I loved the episode with Robert Culp as a robot.
The Rifleman ~ Chuck Conners rocks!
The Rockford Files ~ "Oh Jimmy ya gotta believe me!"
The Saint ~ Roger Moore really was The Saint, not James Bond, which honor belongs to Sean Connery.
The Six Million Dollar Man ~ Lee Majors rocks as Steve Austin!
The Three Stooges ~ Timeless Classic!
Today's FBI ~ Great show with Mike Conners in the lead role!
The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson~ THE PINNACLE of late night television or all television, period!
The Twilight Zone ~ Rod Sterling rocked!
The Waltons ~ Goodnight John Boy!
The X-Files ~ A 90's version of Kolchak really.
Top Cops ~ Cool show!
Voyagers ~ The late John Hexum rocked!
Werewolf ~ Great show which died much sooner than it deserved.
Young Indiana Jones ~ Steven Spielburg foray into TV which was too good for television.
DOCUMENTARY/CRIME/REALITY SERIES:
Biography ~ An always interesting biopic no matter who is the subject.
NOVA ~ Fascinating show depending upon the subject.
Frontline ~ Ditto
American Experience ~ Ditto
California's Gold/Visiting With Huell ~ The guy is getting more and more annoying but the show can be very interesting if it's about something interesting.
FBI: The Untold Stories ~ Great show narrated by Parnell Roberts.
Prime Minister's Questions ~ Few things are more entertaining than watching Tony Blair handle the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.
Connections ~ James Burke rocks!
In Search of... ~ I refer to the original one narrated by Spock.
Twenty Seconds To Disaster ~ Very compelling!
Earth's Fury ~ I like!
Raging Planet ~ Ditto!!
Storm Force ~ Ditto again!

No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain ~ Witty and urbane!
Family Plots ~ Network wankers recently cancelled it, dammit!
Mail Call ~ DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT, WORM!
City Confidential ~ Real smart & edgy writing with perfect delivery by the late Paul Winfield (Captain Turrell in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan)
Venom E.R. ~ Dr. Bush rocks!
Queer Eye For The Straight Guy ~ Carson rocks!
Blow Out ~ Jonathan rocks, but has too many snits and coniptions.
MINISERIES:
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (PBS) ~ Sir Alec Guiness IS George Smiley and he rocks in that memorable role in this Cold War spy thriller.

Eye On The Prize (PBS) ~ Fascinating biopic on the American Civil Rights Movement.
Band Of Brothers (HBO) ~ Easy Company rocks!
Horatio Hornblower (A&E) ~ It added "indefatigable" to my vocabulary! Robert Lindsay IS Sir Edward Pellew and one of the coolest characters ever on the big screen or little one. Oh, and Sir Edward really did exist. Ioan Gruffudd IS Horatio Hornblower, too.
The Shining (SCI-FI) ~ Wonderful interpretation of the Steven King novel.
IT ~ Tim Curry rocked as Pennywise the Clown.
V ~ I really liked this and the musical score was awesome.

Victory At Sea ~ Wonderful WWII documentary miniseries with great gun camera footage.
Savage Sky (PBS) ~ Al Roker narrated this one.
Savage Sea (PBS) ~
Savage Earth (PBS) ~
Savage Planet (PBS) ~
CARTOON SERIES: Spongebob Squarepants ~ Offers a little something for everybody! Speaks to the youngun's on their level but provides such clever and intelligent material for adults. For the record: Spongebob's orientation isn't "gay", it's "not sure", okay? ;-p
South Park ~ Definitely one of my guiltier pleasures in life. Unfortunately, they sometimes go too far, but all in all a great series.
Beavis & Butthead ~ Again, one of my guiltier pleasures in life when it was still on.
Celebrity Deathmatch ~ Great concept and well-executed! Too bad it didn't last longer. The Rat Pack episode was a classic!

Dungeons & Dragons ~ Very atmoshpheric and compelling! Oh, and intelligent, too!

A Concise History Of World War II ~ My favorite old WWII history going back to my childhood.
Currahee! ~ Read this when I was 11 and living in Brookings, OR. It's by Donald R. Burghett, a Screaming Eagle with the 101st Airborne Division dropped behind the Normandy beaches. I love this book but's it's incredibly gruesome with it's unblanching descriptions of the horrific battlefield carnage.
No Surrender: My Thirty Year War ~ The poor devil fought for the Emperor in the jungles of the Philippines up until the mid-1970's believing the war was still raging.
Fire In Paradise ~ Fascinating account of the Yellowstone Fires of 1988.
California Fault ~ Fascinating book as much about California itself as it is about the San Andreas Fault. Indeed, the San Andreas Fault IS what makes California what it is.
California Earthquake Of April 18 1906 (Report from the State of California) ~ I realize it sounds dorky but if you were to peruse it you'd think, "Wow! This is really cool!" Okay, maybe just I would.
Here is New York (Photographic archive of the attacks on the WTC in NYC on 9/11/01) ~ I find this book extremely haunting and compelling.
MODERN FICTION:
Star Colony ~ By Keith Laumer (My favorite Science Fiction novel)
The Lorax ~ By Dr. Seuss (Hey it's much deeper and more clever than you thought it was when you read it as a kid)
Alfred Hitchcock And The Three Investigators Series ~ Gawd I loved reading these books.
Star Trek Novels ~ Okay, I've come out of the closet about that here, but for the record I haven't read any since I was in high school. I really did love them at the time and feel deserve mention.

To Build A Fire ~ By Jack London
The Upper Berth ~ By F. Marion Crawford

My parents, Lynda and Jim, who despite enduring difficult upbringings and rocky adulthoods, fought against the odds to be the best spouses and parents they could be and succeeded.
Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) ~ The greatest American President ever. Humble and dynamic and eloquent beyond comprehension. The Gettysburg Address is perhaps the greatest example of oratory in human history.
Boudica - Queen of the (Brythonic Celtic) Iceni (1st Century A.D.) who led a revolt against Imperial Rome in Eastern Britain that was doomed but righteous in cause and magnificent for a brief time. Grrls rocked in the ancient world, too.
Hannibal Barca (247B.C.-183B.C.) ~ The Father of Stategy. Yeah, THAT Hannibal.

Winston Churchill (1874-1965) ~ Of him John F. Kennedy said "He mobilized the English language and sent it into battle." He was no doubt the right man at the right place at the right time and he was one of western civilization's most important leaders of all time. I'm not sure I would call her my hero but to me she is one of the few wimins I have ever seen embody all that I find sexy in women: grace, class, elegance, style, intelligence, kindness, humility, sense of humor, soulfulness, innocence, innocent sexuality (she projected one, anyway), and physical beauty. If you're too young to know who this is here goes: Audrey Hepburn. Remember that name and watch some of her movies.
.. You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him. Maximus
