About me:
I'm a Christian; I spent a year in Iraq & a month in Kuwait for the Army National Guard; I know this girl that YOU ALL SHOULD MEET one day. She's super HOT, super FINE, she's none other than: my TWIN sister Christie Torres. haha (gotcha, didn't I?) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I LOVE TALKING ABOUT DEEP THINGS W/OTHER PEOPLE and I guess, being all "philosophical." If you want to discuss existentialism, the existence of God, reincarnation, religion, politics, C.S. Lewis, what ticks Jamie Sullivan off---anything beyond the realm of WHAT IS THERE---talk to me, dude. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of my favorite quotes: "The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all, mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment, for someday that person will not be there again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind. And always remember: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was said and written by a man named George Carlin. George Carlin, in case you didn't know, is the bawdy comedian and sometimes-vulgar commentator on life. (I think he is, by far, the funniest man to come out of Comedy Central.) I find his comments on the excesses of modern materialism hilarious. It's cool, too, because you laugh, and then you cry, because you see yourself so much in it. No one escapes unscathed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyway, the quote was written shortly after the death of his wife, which would explain many of its insights, which are worthy of reflection. So much of our busy lives can keep us from seeing that we were made for relationships with God and with each other. Once we do realize it, as good ol' George states, it's too late. Conclusively, it becomes an agonizing reminder from someone (in this case, George Carlin) who acutely feels the loss of a loved one, to INVEST in those we love while we can. Deep stuff, eh? It's true though. What's it got to take for you to finally realize that it's PEOPLE over position, possessions, and pleasures?Who I'd like to meet:
