About me:

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Larry Newton, former President of ABC Records, and his father N. Dennis Kaplan, Esq., an entertainment attorney having represented clients ranging from Ray Charles to Black Sabbath, Adam is the third generation from his family to work within the framework of the music industry. As for Adam, his work experience has allowed him to gain valuable knowledge in various areas of the music industry. After graduating from law school, Adam took a position as a Business Affairs Account Manager with ASCAP, a performing rights organization with offices located all over the world. While at ASCAP, Adam worked closely with the "high profile" writer and publisher members of ASCAP to help ensure that they received all of the performance income due them. When Adam left ASCAP, he did so in order to join Royalty Info Tech (RIT’s) as their Senior Vice President of Business Affairs and Operations. RIT’s was an organization devoted to the identification and collection of international royalties which had been earned, but not yet paid out to their composer and publisher clients. Adam was instrumental in the discovery and collection of over one million ($1,000,000.00) dollars in unpaid royalties during his tenure at RIT’s. Adam left RIT’s to take a position working as a music industry auditor with the firm of Moss Adams, LLC, auditing major publishing companies such as Sony, Warner Chappell and EMI on behalf of Moss Adams, LLC clients. Armed with the knowledge gained from years of practical industry experience, Adam felt that he was now truly prepared to advise and counsel clients with respect to all areas of their entertainment careers. After a brief search, Adam secured a position as an Associate with the law firm of Rudolph & Beer, LLP (“R&B”). At R&B, Adam worked with high profile clients such as: Britney Spears, Aretha Franklin, Justin Timberlake, Keith Murray, Ghostface Killah, 98 Degrees, Trans Continental Records (Backstreet Boys, N'SYNC, O-Town (which was the first MTV Making of the Band, etc.), Blackground Records (Toni Braxton, Aaliyah, JoJo), etc. In addition to working as an Associate at R&B, Adam formed a management company, Logan Management, Inc. and took on Co-Management responsibilities (along with Larry Rudolph) for the artist Nikki Cleary (Jive) and full Management responsibilities for the producer/writer Wirlie "Wyl-e" Morris (B2K, Destiny's Child, Blu Cantrell, Dru Hill, Lloyd feat. Ashanti, B-5, Nephu, Lemar, Charlotte Church, Music for Tyler Perry's Film Daddy's Little Girl, etc). In late 2002 Adam left R&B in order to start his own law firm, and in late 2003 merged with Kristi Gamble, Esq. to form Kaplan & Gamble, LLP. Adam’s main focus at Kaplan & Gamble, LLP has been developing and maintaining their music practice while Krist has been developing and maintaining their Film and TV practice. In addition to his work as an attorney, Adam continues to work as a Manager within the industry, helping to guide artists and producers through the murky waters that make up the music industry. Adam has lectured before the Society of Composer, Authors & Lyricists, on broadcast mechanical royalties. He has also appeared on the television show “Celebrity Justice” commenting on the Universal Music Publishing vs. P. Diddy/Bad Boy lawsuit. In addition, Adam has been interviewed by Bloomberg News UK for commentary on the Sony/BMG merger. Adam and Kristi were featured in the Fall 2004 edition of Small Firm Business, with their picture adorning the front cover of the magazine. Adam received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland and a Juris Doctorate degree from Touro Law School. He is licensed to practice law in both New York and New Jersey.
