About me:

My name is Mario. I am a Domestic Striped Skunk. I became part of the ARL Wildlife Center on November 11, 2002. I was purchased from a breeder. The ARL Wildlife Center must use a domestic skunk that is at least seven generations out of the wild in order to assure that it is rabies free. Domestic skunks can live from 3-6 years. Mario eats dog chow, fruits, and vegetables. Facts on Wild Skunks: Wild skunks can be found in open country, bush lands, parks, and neighborhoods. They eat rodents, eggs, birds, acorns, fruits, and insects. 70% of the insects they eat are harmful to humans. You can find out more information about me and my home at the ARL Wildlife Center's website www.pawildlifecenter.org The Animal Rescue League of Western PA Wildlife Center, founded by the Animal Rescue League of Western PA is a non-profit clinic for wildlife that exists solely on donations and grants, and the help of our dedicated volunteers. Our goal is to treat and release each patient back to the wild. The Wildlife Center has treated thousands of patients since opening in 1997. Over 90% or the Wildlife Center patients come to us due to conflicts with man, such as being hit by cars, being attacked by cats and dogs, or being picked up as presumed orphans. The Wildlife Center is a state and federally licensed rehabilitation facility. It is staffed by one licensed rehabilitator, along with approximately 20 volunteers. The Wildlife Center admits all injured or orphaned native Pennsylvania wildlife. This includes birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The Wildlife Center DOES NOT accept domestic animals, exotic species, or feral dogs and cats.
