(Baile) is a festivity were many people gather to dance. Folklorico: The traditional beliefs, legends, and customs of people. Alma: (Soul) an immortal spiritual substance that informs the human body and with it forms man's essence. Mexico: A country rich in traditions and culture. The Ballet Folklorico Alma De Mexico dance company was founded by Mahdi Najmi, ( Nino Carrillo), a Mexican choreographer now residing in Oxnard. Its first practice was on January 2, l989. Since then , the company has contributed in a very positive way to the union of our community, expanding Mexican culture through the colorful and vibrant dances that develop dramatically through each presentation. Presently we are comprised of over 60 members and technical staff, plus musicians. We have our own Conjunto Jarocho Catemaco and also work very closely with the Mariachi Cuicatlan. We have over $40,000 in costumes, designed and elaborated by Nino Carrillo in the most authentic form known today. Just seeing the beautiful costuming we have is worth any price you pay to see us. We bring at least three instructors direct from Mexico to ensure that our repertoire is as authentic as possible.
