  • Bio

2004 began a new era in music with the birth of a local band in Jacksonville, Fl. Bonded by the common love of music of all kinds, Ryan Westover (Lead Singer), John Lawson (Bass/Guitar), John “The Jack” Benfer (Lead Guitar), John Lamkin (Guitar/Bass), and Anthony Petrizzo (drummer) formed the band 17 South. It all began when John Lamkin was learning how to play Bass, and needed someone to practice with. Jack joined him by playing lead guitar. They then enlisted the help of Ryan Westover to bring a melody to their music. Tired of being the only guitarist, Jack recruited a co-workers Husband, John Lawson, to play guitar as well. Finally, the only thing the band needed was rhythm. After hearing them play, Anthony Petrizzo asked to back up the band as the drummer. Finally the garage band was formed. Four of the members began their journey as materials and aerospace engineers at the Fleet Readiness Center at NAS Jacksonville. Their talents quickly spread from the lab to the studio, producing hits such as “A Star Someday,” “No Soul Woman,” “Crazy World,” and their own take on the Elvis classic “Hound Dog”. They play a variety of Country, Soul and Rock and Roll. Seeing them in concert is a treat for all ages. You will not only hear favorites you know and love, you will hear original songs that will soon be new favorites. Catch them in concerts played all over Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Orange Park, Florida. Read more about the band on their Myspace page, 17southband. You can also download a copy of their original songs on I-tunes. .. .. ..
