Big-screen celebration of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday
HOUMA – This Friday, you can pull up a lawn chair in downtown Houma, kick back and take in a free movie as Marilyn Monroe returns to the big screen on the anniversary of her birthday.
The event will feature the 1959 classic “Some Like It Hot,” starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is the first in a new outdoor movie series put on by the Houma Regional Arts Council and the Houma Downtown Development Corp.
The screening will begin at twilight, likely between 7:30 and 8 p.m., when the sun sets enough for the film to be seen. The film will be shown on an 18-foot-wide by 10-foot-tall screen set up at the Bayou Terrebonne Memorial Park, across from the Waterlife Museum at 7910 Park Ave. in Houma.
Moviegoers can sit on the amphitheater steps or bring lawn-chairs to use on the ground level of the amphitheater.
Adverse weather or other circumstances may change the date of the screening.
