Bio
Figure Ground began in 1987 in Youngstown, OH. Josh (bass), Michael C. (drums), Michael L. (vocals and guitar) and Erik (guitar) had met in high school and began writing and performing as Figure Ground in the summer after graduation. The band played extensively in the midwest and east coast until 1992, self-releasing three cassette EPs during this period. Several of the band's songs were featured in the skateboard video "Hocus Pocus" by H-Street Productions, and the snowboard video "New Kids on the Twock," also by H-Street. RECORDING: In 1990, the band recorded with Tim Butler of the Psychedelic Furs. These songs were released by the band on the cassette "Threads" in late 1990. Figure Ground had a second recording session with Butler in 1991, recording the songs "Sick of Air," "Worth Mentioning," "Salvation," and "Second Hand." Though intended as the beginning of a full-length, these songs were never released. The band stopped playing together in December of 1991. POST-FIGURE GROUND: Erik went on to form Purple Ivy Shadows (1992-2001) and AREA C (2003-present; www.areacmusic.com), and plays in the band Death Vessel. He lives in Providence, RI and is leading a western resurgence of the dam-boa. Michael Loncar formed Viola Peacock in Ann Arbor, MI (1992 - present), published the poetry book "66 galaxie," then absconded to Taiwan, where he currently lives, teaches at a University, rides his rocket-silver vespa up mountains, works on films, and plays with the taiwan band "The Diamond Vehicles". Josh is currently on parole from the 4-string prison that is the bass, and currently plays guitar, lives and is a professional photographer in New York City. Michael Cohen currently lives in Denver, CO where he is a national grocery category manager for the natural/organic grocery chain Wild Oats Markets, and one of the best drummers that ever lived. CURRENT: In 2007 the band decided to get back together for one show in Youngstown, OH, inspired by the Police's reunion. If they can do it, why can't we? Influences
ohh, the oldschool cedars bartenders we new and loved mostly--josh and the always shimmering millie (and that glorious old apartment), chris, jeff, dave, tommy's old hairpiece, those old sure (ramones cast offs--the old legend goes) 58's with the vomity smell, bob eddy motors, flip doodash, the hestae, the pit, alan, the febs, b smash, infidels, kara, chris, and dave, bada, marla, and bootsy, the youngstown scene, the markvicz quintupllets driving on sunday in their mom's chrysler convertible (where's the spellcheck on this thing) the akron and kent (unfortunately) scene, route 80 to nyc--the delaware water gap and their all-natural bee pollen pills for sale placemats, (sounds like a revised out line from dylan's "brand new leopard-skin pillbox hat") i wonder how your head feels under something like that... that little god-gift to weary bandsters--the taco bell more when i can think of some--anything else guys?? m -

How are you? My new friend. Thanks for adding me.
Thanks a lot for the CDs.
I was only 16 when I first listened to Figure Ground, in the film Hokus Pukus. It became one of my dreams back then to just go live in the US and skate and with Matt Hensley. A part because of Intro To The Long Telethon.
I will let my old friends in Tokyo know that you are still great.
Sweet! I got my paws on the Disc! Thanks a million Eric. Best to ya man! Hey, Did you ever know a 'David Stockslayer', from around Youngstown/ or around the Cincinnati area? He was a real good skater, may have joined the service ten or more years back?
