18% Grey was originally begun in Orlando, Florida by Rod and Matt while they attended Full Sail University. They have been long time band mates in Jackson, Tennessee with bands such as Fields of Mourning and Once Again. After going through a cycling configuration of members, it quickly became clear that 18% Grey had to move to Nashville, Tennessee with Rod and Matt. Shortly before the move, due to the lack of singers who fit what 18% Grey needed, Matt, who has always been the bass player, decided to step up and give his long time ambition of being a front man a try. Also, around the same time, Seiji, Rod and Matt’s long time friend, joined the band as well as Rod’s brother Nick. Shortly after the move, the band’s prospective drummer decided his heart was not in the band, and kept his focus on his other projects. This left the infantile 18% Grey wondering if the band would work at all due to the fact that a good drummer has always been the biggest challenge to find in all of Rod and Matt’s bands, but by an act of God, Blake was available and jumped on board immediately as the perfect missing puzzle piece. ...... Matt Crum - Vocals - Influences: (Tool, U2, HIM, Slipknot, Assemblage 23) Live performance, touring, and creativity are simply in Matt’s blood. He grew up traveling with his father, who is a dramatist and artist, and it was in this arena that he was prepared for the band life. He has always had an appreciation for the complete spectrum of music but found his true love in bands such as Tool, U2, HIM, Slipknot, In Flames, AFI, Pink Floyd, and Assemblage 23. Matt met Rod during high school and they quickly became good friends and musical allies. Bass guitar has always been Matt’s place in the bands they played in together, but Matt felt that his long time ambition of being a front man could be fulfilled in 18% Grey. After overcoming his crippling fear of singing in public, he is now realizing that goal and satisfying his passion for live performance. ...... Rod Sebastian- Guitar - Influences: (Disturbed, Sevendust, Alter Bridge, Mudvayne, Chimaira)Also hailing from Chile, Rod, the older Sebastian, became a metal enthusiast and began playing guitar immediately after seeing his first Creed and Disturbed music videos. At that moment he decided that his life would be dedicated to pursuing a life in music. With that goal in mind, he has played in several bands including Fields of Mourning, Bleak Reality, Once Again, and Evolve Through Scars. During his ten years of guitar playing, he has become more well versed in music and is now influenced by bands such as Disturbed, Sevendust, Mudvayne, Alter Bridge, Staind, Chimaira, Arkea, Mnemic, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Tool , and Meshuggah.
