Bio
.... Welcome to the new-look official home of Steve Martin and Rainy Night Music – a proven consistent and talented songwriter based in the west of Cornwall, UK, who does not normally talk in the third person! .... Three years ago, the Rainy Night Music brand was formed and I officially became a competitive songwriter. During this time, I have entered some of the world’s most prestigious songwriting competitions – most notably the USA Songwriting Competition and the UK Songwriting Contest – in an effort to have my work heard by industry professionals, hopefully leading to song placement and publishing. .... I have had what can only be described as tremendous success, with the 2009 results being the best yet. In just three years, I have achieved ..FIVE.. major Finalist placings, ..TWENTY-FIVE.. major borderline-finalist placings and ..FIFTY-EIGHT.. major semi-finalist placings. In 2009 alone, I was a finalist in three separate categories of the UKSC, including the most entered and difficult-to-win Pop category. This was particularly pleasing as I firmly believe in the ‘bring back the Christmas number one campaign’ and it was my song ..It’s Christmas Day.. that made the final in the pop category. This means that it is ..guaranteed.. to end up on the desk of the people who make the big decisions in the music industry. Whether or not it generates any significant interest remains to be seen! Watch this space. .... Over the last three years I have entered a total of 32 songs – I enter different songs each year – and 30 of these are now available to listen to through myspace, with the addition of my 2 new, subsidiary myspace sites. The latest 10 songs can be heard here on my official home page and clicking on the quick links to the left of the header will direct you to the 2008 and 2007 songs. .... All of the work exhibited on this and the subsidiary sites are available for song placement and publishing. If you would like to see the breakdown of the judges scoring for my latest work, please check out the latest blog, above. If you are interested in my work, please contact me through this site. Thank you for stopping by and listening – I hope you enjoy what you hear! .... ..Steve Martin, Rainy Night Music.. .... ........ .. .......... ............ ............ .......... ............ ............ ............ ............ .... -

Rainy Night Music is not a band, it is the songwriting brand name of myself, Steve Martin. I am not a recording or live performing artist, I am purely a songwriter seeking to place my songs with established artists, publishers, A & R departments, etc, for my work to be 'covered'. Essentially, everything on this main site and the 2 new subsidiary sites (accessed through the quick links, above left) are raw material demos, which I promote through the major international songwriting competitions each year. As such, nearly all instruments and vocals are performed and recorded by myself, using live instruments in a low-budget home studio setting. .... On occasion, I have worked with guest artists. One such notable artist is David Saylor who performed all vocals on the Rainy Night Ballads site. Other artists that I have worked with include Robert Martinez (also on the Rainy Night Ballads site), who covered my song ....Kernow...., using alternative Spanish lyrics and Jeni Slattery, who performed bodhran and woodwind on ....For This Day.... (published on main site). -
Influences
Inspirationally, the people and the world around me. Stylistically, anything from the Goo Goo Dolls to Usher. Mozart to Alien Ant Farm. Anything but urban dance has influenced me. <a href="http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vc29uZ3dyaXRpbmdjb250ZXN0LmNvLnVr" target="_blank"></a><style>body { margin-top: 576px; } .mybannermakerheadbanner { position: absolute; top: 0; width: 728px; text-align:center; margin-top: 15px; margin-left: -364px; left: 50%; }</style><div class="mybannermakerheadbanner"><a href="http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vc29uZ3dyaXRpbmdjb250ZXN0LmNvLnVr" target="_blank"><img src="http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7584/mybanner4a9bae561ab89.jpg" alt='An Official Site of Rainy Night Music!' border="0" /></a></div> -
Sounds Like
Alice in Wonderland! Owing to the vast stylistic diversity that I write in, listening to one of my CDs is like listening to music in Wonderland - you listen to one and it sounds like The Fray, then the next comes along and it is raw folk, then we're back to Snow Patrol, before moving onto Crash Test Dummies, finishing with Slade! If you delve deeper onto my other sites, you will also find Dave Matthews, Damien Rice, Luke Toms, Jon Bon Jovi, Will Young, Lemar, Elton John and many more! .... I never restrict myself to one style. My music is about life, recorded live and ..is.. alive. Find your favourite flavour and let me know what you think of my life's work, to date! .. ..................

Cheers for the comment. I never noticed the stiltskin thing before, but now that you mention it...!
I'm kinda in the same boat as you - i like writing, and i'd prefer someone else to cover my stuff. I'm no performer!
You got some good songs there. Congrats on hitting the final. 3 times!
Rick.
