Under the Sun Gallery and Arts for Action is hosting “Una Noche de Otro-Arte” (An Evening of Other Art), a book reading by Canek Peña-Vargas, editor of the newly released book The Speed of Dreams,Selected Writings 2001-2007, Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos, and art exhibition dedicated to raising awareness about the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico. We welcome the public to this educational reception to learn about the struggles the Indigenous people of Chiapas are facing and about Zapatista values -- such as land, housing, health, nutrition, women's rights, indigenous rights, workers rights, freedom, democracy, justice, and autonomy. All are invited to this book reading/art reception to meet Canek Peña-Vargas and the artists which include Xavier Montes, Dolores Haro, Emilia Garcia, Edmund Lara, Eduardo Hinojosa-Espinoza, Adrian Gaspar, Maribel Hernandez and photographers Rudy Cardona and Arturo Perez.
The reception will be held during Ventura ’s “First Fridays” gallery crawl on Friday, June 6 from 6-9pm at Under the Sun Gallery 432 N. Ventura Avenue, Studio 30 at Bell Arts Factory in Ventura .

We just finished putting Otto Sturckes artwork up in the gallery. It's beautiful work. Stop by to see his paintings soon!! His exhibit will be up until May 24. His opening reception will be held during art walk on Saturday, April 26 from 2-7pm. As always, light refreshments will be served and Xavier Montes will be playing his harp from 3-7pm for all to enjoy!! Also, we'll be hosting a Cinco de Mayo Unity Festival on Saturday May 3rd. It's going to be a great event!! All proceeds will benefit Bell Arts Factory's Aztec dance group Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc and the Brazilian Martial Arts Capoeira group. The event includes performances by Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc, Capoeira, Drumline Revolution, a fashion show and live music performed by various groups in Spanish Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop in addition to DJ's from 103.3 The Vibe. There will be a minimum $10 donation entrance fee. Food and drinks will be available for sale!! Come enjoy the fun!
