Kicking out the boogie-fied jams with a righteous Swedish spontaneity, the power trio known as Marulk make quite a racket on their self-titled debut. Repping such legit 70s influences as Grand Funk Railroad and November with a healthy dose Hellacopters -styled rock, Marulk have got it goin’ bossanova, and are practically begging to be discovered by a retro-minded youth tired of blatant ironic hipsterism.

The music sounds fresh and sympathetic because it comes towards you with an energy reminding of bands like The Hellacopters and earlier Status Quo. Much attention is given to the arrangements in the songwriting and fitting the separate instruments into the whole concept. This one is sure worth a try.

The album showcases an act that seems to hold the ‘70s releases by Pentagram and AC/DC close to their heart. The leaden, downtuned guitar sound owes just as much to the former as the distinct, talk-like lead vocals, while the riff passages, tempo and general positive groove and energy throughout bear a much stronger resemblance to the antics that made the electric Aussies popular.

Speaking of highlights, "Nosferatools" kicks off the second half of the album and seems to be the song that best personifies Marulk’s sound. The first half of the song is a fast paced rock 'n' roll shit kicker that completely transforms somewhere in the middle to become a slowed down, gut rattling riff rocker and finally comes to a close with the mellow strumming of an acoustic guitar and Danne Palm lamenting.

If you insist to rock with heavy 70's riffs-oriented hard rock, with the Swedish tunes and breeze, Marulk will be the brand new Eden for you.
After the albums' 34 minutes, the creating nostalgia of this musical revolution becomes stronger, and the general sense that the listener had is that the sum of Sweden based rock bands can be more tempting and appealing to bigger part of fans who love seventies’ heavy rock, cause this album is the simplified evidence.
