Im Oktober 2010 gehen Funker Vogt nach einer kleinen Serie von Live-Veröffentlichungen innerhalb der letzten zwei Jahre und ihrem letzten Studio-Album „Aviator“ (2007) nun mit ihrem achten Longplayer „Blutzoll“ erneut an den Start. Funker Vogt gehen ihren Weg auch mit diesem Album konsequent weiter – erneut, ohne an Variationen in Sachen Tempo und Sounddesign gespart zu haben. Verstärkt fällt jedoch auf, dass man auf „Blutzoll“ sehr gezielt auf den Kern der Songs an sich Wert gelegt hat. Weitgehend ohne die herkömmlichen, von Funker Vogt bekannten lang gestreckten Soundpassagen orientiert man sich erstmals primär an den Songstrukturen selbst, was die einzelnen Stücke sehr viel intensiver wirken lässt, sodass auf „Blutzoll“ mehr denn je der eine oder andere Ohrwurm schon gleich beim ersten Durchhören im Ohr hängen bleibt. Insofern wollte man sich auch gezielt von der herkömmlichen Namensgebung der letzten drei Studioalben („Survivor“, „Navigator“ und „Aviator“) lösen und passend zum neuen Jahrzehnt eine neue und ungezwungenere Ära einleiten. Auch von den Texten her gehen Funker Vogt den eingeschlagenen Weg mit „Blutzoll“ konsequent weiter. Das Thema Krieg und seine Folgen sind auch hier wieder sehr präsent. Nichtsdestotrotz gibt es auch wieder eine Menge Songs, die sich nicht um diesen Themenkomplex drehen, sondern vielmehr auf persönliche Erfahrungen und fiktive Szenarien setzen. Mit „Arising Hero“, der aktuellen Singleauskopplung, wird der finale Part der Hero-Trilogie präsentiert. Er schließt zeitlich direkt an die beiden Vorläufer „Tragic Hero“ und „Fallen Hero“ an und bringt jene Trilogie so zu einem würdigen Abschluss. Wenngleich es nie geplant war, dass jeder Teil eine Single werden sollte, hat es sich letztendlich durch den Zufall so gefügt - dieses Kapitel wird mit „Arising Hero“ nun geschlossen. Weiterhin gibt es zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der Band ein Duett mit einer Sängerin zu hören: „My Innermost“ ist hart und zerbrechlich gleichermaßen und bekommt durch die Stimme von Gastsängerin Valerie Renay (Noblesse Oblige) einen unverwechselbaren Charakter. „Blutzoll“ kommt sehr kompakt, trotzdem vielschichtig und ein weiteres Mal ausgereifter daher als alle seiner Vorgängeralben, ohne diese zu schmälern. Funker Vogt klingen wie Funker Vogt – eben nur wieder ein Stück besser! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a small series of live recordings releases in the past 2 years and the last studio album “Aviator” (2007), FUNKER VOGT come up with their brand new 8th full length called “Blutzoll”. Funker Vogt follow their way consequently with this new album which features several variations in terms of speed and sound design. This time, the song structures themselves are obviously the most significant thing. Without the usual Funker Vogt-typical long sound passages these songs are focussed to the song structures which gives them a lot more intensity. “Blutzoll” contains lots of catchy tunes that will be remembered right away from the first listening session. In light of this, the record was named to make a difference to the three latest studio releases (“Survivor”, “Navigator” and “Aviator”). Funker Vogt are paying attention to the changes of the new decade, they’re starting a new and more casual era here. The lyrical side of “Blutzoll” also consistently follows this path. War and its consequences are present again. However, there are a lot of songs that don’t cover this theme and are about personal experiences and fictional scenarios. „Arising Hero“, the current single release (available digitally only), presents the final part of the “Hero” trilogy. This single, being the resumption of the previous singles “Tragic Hero” and “Fallen Hero”, completes the trilogy in a graceful way. Although there were no plans describing that every part of the trilogy should be released as a single it has finally turned out like this. This chapter will be closed now with “Arising Hero”. And for the first time in the history of the band, this album features a duet with a female singer: “My Innermost” is strong and fragile at the same time – the voice of Valerie Renay (Noblesse Oblige) adds a warm and shimmering touch to this impressive track. To sum it all up, one could say „Blutzoll“ is a compact, but at the same time very complex album. It’s really the next step of this band.
