The Spitzer Study of Ex-Gay Therapy: Methodological Flaws and Political Abuse
Daniel Gonzales over at Ex-Gay Watch has created a very well done video that loks at the Spitzer study, a study that has been used repeatedly by anti-gay church leaders and ex-gay proponents as proof that "change is possible". Daniel blows the lid on this one as he carefully examines the studies and why it could never be used as it has been used.
Watch it through to get a nice quick summary of the info covered (oh and there is a fun bit about 2/3 of the way through)
"A study of gay conversion therapy released by Dr. Robert Spitzer in 2001 sent shockwaves through the American media despite serious methodological concerns. This video examines those concerns and goes on to examine how the study has been abused by anti-gay political organizations such as James Dobson’s Focus on the Family to promote anti-gay public policy."

Things I have never done: I have never had a baby (thus I've maintained my figure.) I have never gone bungee jumping (although I had the chance at Victoria falls when I lived as a missionary in Africa). I have never ridden in a hot air balloon. I have never been abducted by aliens (no, LIA does not count--I went willingly). I have never voted for a Bush. And despite the claims of some religious leaders about the dangerous slippery slope of homosexuality, I have never had intercourse with an animal or a banana.
Imagine how excited I was when I pulled my copy of "The Advocate" out of the mailbox and saw your picture while flipping through! I thought that Tim Murphy did a great job with the article...very nice to read someone choosing to not demonize either side and actually relating and sympathizing with Chambers and the other ex-gays.
Your new material on Trans people in the Bible stirred lots of emotions. It once again reinforced how not only did God make us the way we are but loves us Just As We Are as well. I continue to be impressed with your sensitivity to God's leading in your life. Thank you for sharing yourself once again!! May God continue to Bless You! Roger
