1977 Records is a record label and based in Tokyo JAPAN, which has released 50 titles.
It's founded in 1992 by DJ Lodio (Nobutada Yaita), of “London Nite” which is the pioneer of Tokyo’s club night event. 1977 Records took its departure from a mail-order recordings distribution service. In 1999, the label moved to Dojunkai Building in Harajuku; the central area of Tokyo’s fashion, and opened a record shop under an 18 mouths license.
1977 Records took a first step as a record label in December 2000, and began repressing and re-releasing of 70’s punk, mods & power-pop.
In late 2000, we created new label Egging, with a mind to release good bands in the world regardless of genre.
Most recent releases are in the indie pop, indie rock, and alternative genres although we have also released punk and power-pop bands.
We released Farrah which is a british power-pop band. Their pop sound is popular also in Japan and the band was taken up as a favorite band of Japanese artist, like Kaera Kimura and Asian Kang-Fu Generation. Farrah played in Nano-Mugen Festival 2005 in Japan with Ash, Dogs die in Hot Cars and Asian Kang-Fu Generation. Jez Ashurst who is a singer and guitarist of Farrah wrote songs for a lot of famous Japanese singers such as Kaera Kimura and Yuki. And also he wrote for American band, Click 5. Some of his songs are used for TV commercial, and are very popular in Japan.
We also released Horrors and Rumble Strips. They are one of the upcoming bands and they attracts attention from NME magazine.
Now, Egging is going a remarkable label in Japan!!
Nobutada Yaita is the founder and owner of 1977 Records. He wrote the Japanese language liner-notes for The Seventeen (forerunners of The Alarm) “A Flashing Blur of Stripped Down Excitement” and The Buzzcocks “Modern album.”
