About the show:
"1978" was created in 2002 with the purpose of promoting musical genres of relatively difficult and/or underground access, which stands without general promotion at all levels. "1978" wants to decisively promote Portuguese bands, and events across all across Portugal and abroad, giving air play to the "classics" as well to the artists that are nowadays noticed in the "underground" scene and the dancefloors, being innovative though always trying to present new alternatives. This way, "1978" wants to help the visible growth of the alternative scene in Portugal and, through its online edition, show the alternative panorama in Portugal to other countries amd vice-versa. "1978" wants as well, everytime it is possible, to organize events and thus showing more and more alternatives.
"1978" can be heard weekly, on Sunday nights, from 11pm to midnight, on R.U.C. (107.9 FM - Portugal) or through the radio's permanent online broadcast.
1978 goes through many alternative genres and has become a cult radio show over the years. The show shifts gears throughout different decades, genres and themes in an unique way.
From the most obscure demo tapes and vinyl records from the early 80's rarely (or never) heard on any radio, to the latest and most thrilling new alternatives, 1978 is able to capture a wide audience, while keeping true to its roots, and the listener hanging tight for the next song, and always coming back for the next show.
Gonçalo Vasco is also part of the editorial staff of ELEGIA MAGAZINE (Formerly ELEGY IBÉRICA MAGAZINE, distributed in Portugal, Spain, Brazil & Latin America, and Latin Communities around the world).
Gonçalo Vasco also votes for the Portuguese Alternative Charts (P.A.C.)
1978 Radio show and its webpage are mantained solely by and remain exclusive property of Gonçalo Vasco (aka. DJ Exael) since 2002.
The BEST way for artists to promote their work in the UK.
Who I'd like to meet: Any related bands, DJs, labels, artists who'd like to see their work exposed on Portugal's only dark alternative radio show airing weekly on a licenced radio station since 2002.
1978 is NOT an podcast or internet radio show. It is done ON AIR and LIVE in the studio every Sunday.
Also make sure you visit the show's webpage and create an account to access the forums, be able to comment, and post suggestions on possible first-page news articles and general contents.
1978 is willing to promote any related band or label (with airplay on both the radio show and live DJ sets and on the webpage, interviews, reviews, live on-air promotional giveaways, or anything you find interesting to be done) , just check in the webpage and send an email telling us a bit about your project and requesting the show's promotional snail mail address.

WE'D LIKE TO MEET YOU!
We would like to sincerely thank some people, so please check our Hall Of Fame (Top Friends List) for our most treasured friend bands (hey Lucas, JUDE, Win, Paul); some interesting Portuguese bands (including some bands Gonçalo Vasco has worked with as a Producer and/or Audio Engineer); our unweavering promotional supports - some have become more than just promotional acquaintances! (Salut, Lionel! Cheers, Dan!) -; some of our most loyal media partners as well some oustanding individuals such as Tim Bricheno (cheers mate, am forever thankful!) and Mick Mercer (who I had the pleasure of contributing for his new book, please buy it). As for Ophiusa, Dark Silence Factory, Fade In and Lisbon Decay - You've all been doing a fantastic job. Thank you!
They all deserve to be here and deserve your support as well. Some of these people are truly part of the backbone behind 1978 Radio Show's weekly grandeur.
It's been a while since I've had a chance to write a bit o' poetry to post for our friends to peruse. Now that summer is here, It's time to get back to it. Enjoy!
