  • Video Fun in Edinburgh

Spent the best part of yesterday in Glasagow's rival city of Edinburgh. We were filming a video for our song '59', an endearing shimmy from the mind and heart of drummer-buoy Michael. This time we've returned to the bosom of Abby and Lewis who masterminded our 'You Made Me Like it' video, y'know, the one with the gymnasts. This time they've attempted to film us strutting around a studio then they'll miniaturise us and place us into this lovely wee toy house and garden. It's not a CGI disaster though. Oh NO, we'll be spending much of the next week cutting out with scissors about five and a half thousand individual frames of film. Basically billions of tiny people. Luckily it's not just us. We were joined by the delightful Clare, Tara and Jenna who provided synchronised dance routines and Miss Viva who conjured up some burlesque drama. We're all genuinely intrigued to see what this all looks like. Dino filmed some of the filming so maybe that'll pop up in snatches either here or on 1990s.tv (when it's finished).

    See ye.....

  • Studio Chit-Chat

    Friends,

We're in the studio as I type. Been recording all week in Moloko, Hoxton Square. Doing three new tracks with Bernard Butler. A very joyful session it's been too. KICKSTRASSE is kinda glam-tastic in it's current state. The guitars on this are constantly described as "menacing" (usually by the easily menaced). Today we got Miss Jackson auf dem Long Blondes into the studio to add some extra glamour to an already glamour-soaked track. She managed to reach up into the heavens for those notes only Tina Turner and Russell Mael know about. Thanks a-plenty, Kate.
We also recorded GIDDY UP. Kinda Roxy meets Keith (Music/Richards) with lyrics which manage to namecheck two soviet gymnasts and the russian artist R.Wood currently collaborates with. It's a simple pleasure this track. But not a guilty one.
Last up is SPARKS. Composed by Dino and interpreted by Jackie. A rough and ready pop gem. The closest we get to Cheap Trick before their bodyguards step-in. Enjoy.

Tonight we're off out to some club in Hoxton to dance a shimmy to Kate Jackson's 7" collection. Maybe see ye there.....x
  • Back out of the BOX....

    Oh MAN....

I guess you can see there's some ACTION on this myspaz page again. Well, we just regained custody of the baby you see. Don't think there was anyone even steering the ship for a while. Ran aground. Dashed on the rocks.

    Anyway....

We're gonna try to spice it up a little round here. Try to be on and available. I haven't personally had a computer in the flat for years but just got a lap-top and joined the future.

This evening I managed to put up a coupla demos we did earlier in the year. Don't really wanna spoil the surprise of the new album (February or March i guess, more news later) but we've been playing VONDELPARK and THE BOX for aeons now so might as well put up a version of them. They were recorded at ARC practice rooms just south of the river in Glasgow then vocals and mixing were completed in my bedroom in Pollokshields. I'm not very good at technical stuff. All the needles end up in RED. But the recordings have charm and I hope you like em.

Over the next week we'll try to get more stuff up and running here. Poems and nude photos and recipes etc. In a week's time we're back down in London to record the final three songs for our album. One's called KICKSTRASSE and there might be one called SPARKS and another is sans-title but it's got a hillbilly giddy-up vibe you might like. I'm excited to say the least.

I'll try to do a bit of a catch-up of our travels this week. Let you know what we've been up to under the radar.

It's nice to be back out of the box.....

    Jackie......x x x
