About me:
300 million children are chronically hungry or malnourished around the world.
100 million children do not attend school every day.
Every five seconds, a child dies from hunger and 12 tons of food is wasted.
How can you help? Join 19CENTS in the fight against world hunger!
19CENTS is a student-to-student, lunch-to-literacy program for children in Chad. In collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme and the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, 19CENTS funds the cost of school feeding programs. School feeding encourages attendance for young girls in the form of school lunches and take home food rations. Through this aid, young girls can gain the knowledge that impacts a generation of people. School feeding has proven to be the most effective way to ensure that young girls attend school-research confirms that basic education is the most effective way to improve economies and build healthy societies.
The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian organization and the world's frontline fighter against hunger. For nearly 40 years, WFP has provided free school lunches as an incentive for the children of poor families to go to school. In 2003, the agency's school feeding programme helped over 15 million children in 67 countries.
The Society of the Holy Child Jesus is an order of nuns committed to the philosophy of their founder, Cornelia Connelly: "Actions, Not Words." To that end, the Society runs schools around the world, including in Africa, America, and Europe. With their cooperation, 19CENTS is utilizing the SHCJ Network of Schools to engage school communities in education and fundraising for our work in Chad
