True meaning of diamond in the rough, Born in Atl GA (Grady Baby) and raised on the west side Shunekè, rap artist / songwriter, is by far Atlanta’s well kept secret. With ambition and determination, she plans on presenting her style of hip-hop/ rap to the world. A product of a single parent home, she raised herself due to her mother working 2-3 jobs at a time. She had a passion for entertaining at an early age. It was during an elementary school ceremony singing a solo lead, which she got her first taste of live performing. From there she progressed with her love of music and entertainment. Hip-Hop was one of the biggest influences in her life because she related to the different subjects and ways of life that it promoted. It gave her the motivation she needed to express her life through Hip-Hop. Being involved in many performance plays, Shunekè was always casted as the comic relief, rapper, or villain. This caused people to take notice of the talent she held and would always acknowledge it. Around the age of 13 she and a few friends formed a hip-hop/R&B group. As time passed she discovered that she was the only person making an effort to make it happen which caused some relationships to dwindle. “I like sincerity and it’s rare to find people that keep it real at all times.” Shunekè says as she reflects on the sourness of those past groups and friendships. As a teenager Shunekè spent a lot of time riding the streets of Atl. Shunekè found that she got caught up in more trouble in the street, so that led to the revelation that music could be an escape. She could turn those street emotions into words on wax. Once she finished high school, Shunekè knew she was ready to hustle and grind to achieve her dreams. Her family however, wanted her to get an education, so she decided to put the music to the side and try out the college life. The lifestyle was filled with partying and lots of spending. Shunekè later discovered a way of making money and being able to stay in school at the same time. She became an entertainer at a gentlemen’s club. She did not favor this idea but it paid the dividends to do it. It also gave her more confidence and love for entertaining. Seeing fast money come in gave her a sense that school was not as important as she thought (bad idea). She realized she was a strong, independent, woman who was goal oriented. She always knew what she wanted and went after it. Her family today is what keeps her grounded.
