Thanks for adding me. Hoping you'll update your blog. Did you get the ABC/Disney job? I'm always happy to meet people who mention Priscilla Queen of the Desert as a favorite. Nothing cheers me up like that movie.

Hi, Cindy. Thanks for befriending us. And for letting us air GJ's episode this week. Here's some info from a bulletin we just sent out. Feel free to post it, share it, send it around:

The Cameraman: Watch The Clips, Meet The Cast

This week's TV episode is called The Cameraman. There are two stories--an interview conducted by Ira and animated by Chris Ware and John Kuramoto, which you can see here on Slate.com and the story of GJ, Frank & Cindy, all of whom are in our Top Friends. Here's the episode description from our website, and below are two clips from the show (an unaired bonus clip is available at our site). Leave us a comment telling us what you thought.

A tale of "Downtown" Cindy Brown, my mother, a woman who never wore the same outfit twice.

Once when I was about 8 years old Cindy and I went to May Company to return a fancy dress she had purchased. We were just about to get the money back when the manager appeared to check my mom's name against a list... sure enough, she was on it and suddenly the man would no longer allow the refund to take place.

The names, he then told us, were a list of KRs or "Known Returners." Basically people that had returned so many items that May Company started to keep tabs on them. I guess certain folks, he explained, "had the nerve to buy an outfit, wear it once, and then take it back the next day."

It was kind of embarrassing, everybody was staring at us, and I felt suddenly like a real deadbeat.

My mom didn't have a hard time explaining that this must be another Cindy Brown, given that it was such a common name... and her being so glamorous it wasn't long before the manager caved and acknowleged "yes... it must be someone else." We got the money back for the dress.

As we left the store my mom told me, "I guess they're on to me... better start shopping at Nordstrom's from now on."

But when Nordstrom's caught on, too, my mom was never one to give up. So her new plan was to buy her dresses, wear them one night, and then send ME in the next day to return them. This proved to be a highly effective strategy, as who would deny an 8 year old kid who's mother was "too ill" to come in hereself?

    No one.

Interests

  • General

Film, music....musical plays, fashion, seeing something bad happening to politicions, newest facelift actions...plastic surgery that’s cheap....getting a job in showbiz... Oh, I almost forgot, I love anything new in outer space and science...specifically The old “String Theory”..now revised to actual astrophysical reality.. called “Brane World“ (new membranes or actual worlds identified.).11 new dimensions found in universe...Not to mention, this is everything that “matters” when it is all over, but none of you would know this - but I am pretty damned sure.. ...
  • Music

I like Led Zeplin, AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, some70’s like Chicago, Styx, ELO, Eagles Queen and Joni Mitchell... I listen to George Strait, Lately I found an Old Jackson 5 greatest hits and it‘s good all right.....Lyle Lovett, .. Andrew Lloyd Webber Show Tunes, Natalie and Nat King Cole, I heard a song I liked by Michael Buble (sp.?)I think it was “I want to go home“....I like some heavy metal when I work out as Metallica, Pantera and Megadeth - and sometimes Shania Twain. I also like most of Van Halen...I like old Christmas standards too so go to hell...
  • Movies

“The Godfather‘, “Little Lord Fauntleroy 1932, with Freddie Bartholomew“..“The Predator” all of the Indiana Jones stuff, the original Disney Cinderella .. loved older movie “Raising Arizona “ with N. Cage .......remembered “Mildred Pierce“, ......and felt newer movie “Sideways” was intelligent... Pee Wee's Big Adventure and The Princess Bride..all the old Black and Whites Classics like David Copperfield with WC Fields.. I like old movies. I never liked "Bogey" though.
  • Television

Well, I need my notes for this for sure..I don’t watch TV at all....well except for “American Idol” and “Dancing With The Stars”...I guess that is it.. I watch the news and I like Nova and PBS and any any nature shows on KCET.
  • Books

okay, finally you have arrived at a subject I am at one with.. for...I have most carefully read all of those six books to this date.....I have chosen my books wisely.... recommended reading: “Mandingo” by who in the hell knows but a earth shaking life threatening book to be damn sure, and I am not kidding. Anything by Kurt Vonegut like “Slauterhouse 5” and “Sirens of Titan” Aything by Brian Weiss like “Many Lives, Many Masters” “Only Love is Real” “The Road Less Traveled”..author not remembered right now...
  • Heroes

(?).. okay like I would have a “hero” (?) what the hell is that anyway? do you mean role model or what exactly do you mean..I do not have any role models as I am the one and only .. well perhaps excepting one, GJ Echternkamp.....Maybe you are asking who else, besides myself, I could respect?..If this is the case, I would honestly have to say “GJ. Echternkamp..bionicfilmmakerman“..that would have to be it for me...Well I just thought, What about Jesus..he would be anyone’s most wanted to ask questions and talk to wouldn’t he? I want to ask Jesus questions like “WHY.. “God is on the side of the largest battalion” (?)..and why we can’t be just judged on our deeds and not on whether not we would buy a condo in the afterlife? Why does Satan want or need so many souls in Hell, what is he doing with them..is there any maximum soul total to Hell...what is this all about?

Blurbs

About me:

“Capable of original thought”(first and foremost.)....but then take your pick from : Terminally vain.. vivacious...dynamic.. unique ... not to mention kind, soulful and humane. (“Glamourous,”and “fabulous” has also been mentioned more than once). Gifted and fiercely loyal. Anarchist.....(”iconoclastic“, but I am not sure if that means what I think it means.and I don‘t have a dictionary handy right now - keep that word on hold...and I will report back later...)

Who I'd like to meet:

Are you kidding?..I don’t want to “meet” anyone for crying out loud...did you mean...I think I deserve a little more than to “meet”? someone...I have “met” plenty of celebs and I can tell you that it doesn’t do you any good...(not fun, except to see how short and plain or whatever unexpectedly less than average they actually are)....but did you mean what group of” well noted’ people I would like as friends to hang out with?... In that case I think a good group of friends would be: Groucho Marx, Lyle Lovett, Kurt Vonegut, GJ Echternkamp, Tesla the inventor, Of course the usual guest,John Lennon, ..and don’t forget Roosevelt, Daniel Stamm, Moliere, Van Gogh and Cher.. I almost forgot to add to my exclusive group..Victor Kaufeld, Isaac Asimov, Valerie Irvin, Hanoi Jane maybe the Cohen Bros. or that Terry Director guy who did Fear and Loathing in Las vegas..to add the directors buzz to the party...(note: G.J. ..I wanted to say Oscar Wilde and John Steinbeck because their names are always revered but I don’t know what the hell they are specifically famous for except didn’t Steinbeck write “the grapes of wrath” or something?.. I saw the grapes of wrath - an old black and white movie with Peter Fonda and I can say I liked it and that’s for sure.) P.S. Frank wants to add Freddie Mercury to his list he just said...greatest voice ever...
