I grew up in the 60's so my main inflences were the bands for that era Beatles, Stones, John Mayall, Peter Green.Hendrix, Cream etc
Laterly I have been influenced by New Country Music singer/songwriters Gretchen Peters, Mary Chapin Carpenter , Kim Richey, Matraca Berg. Steve Earle etc. too many great songwriters to mention
Now dont get me wrong I certainly dont claim to be any sort of guitartist like the great English Blues guys , and I dont think I will evey win a CMT award for Song of the Year Like Gretchen Peters ' Independence Day' BUT, those Nashville songwriters do have a way with words and I hope that some of the way of expressing circumstances, feelings and ellusions has rubbed off a little bit.
Another major inspiration for my work is Todd Rundgren's 1972 ablum ' Something/Anything' where he wrote the songs, sang and played all the instruments and engineered and produced the Album himself. Well I wanted to do that myself in 1972 .. and at last in 2006 I have made a start. The songs here are rough cuts - Work in Progress to this end.
I don't suppose it will work out - another ' Diamond & Disapointment' !! Check the song out
Sounds Like
Sound like - what does this mean. I dont know if I sound like anyone else - suggetions please on a postcard
Hi, "1ManBaned" is the Myspace home for Sheffield UK based musican and composer Mike Evans.
My main instrument is drums but I also play guitar and keyboards. I played in bands in the 60/70's and then stopped to fullfil a career in business as at the time I did not have the guts to quit quite well-paid dayjobs for the lottery that is the music business.
A few years ago I became involved with the music scene again because of work . I helped set a Protools based recording studio at the Burton Street Foundation and also helped arrange regular 'open-mic' nights . This also got me back into playing and introduced me to recording and this has stimulated me to start writing songs again.
When I started writing songs they had an autobiograhical and probably boring slant. But I realised that I could take elements of my experiences to create songs that more people would relate to rather than churn out introspective 'dear diary' tomes.
In addition I actively seek to write songs that people can sing along to ! Remember 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' - ie if a grey haired old guy can whistle the song walking along the street .. you got a hit !!. Well, now I am that old guy and I am busy whistling .
So this website acts as a shop wondow for my SONGS not my performances. I am seeking a Publisher to work with me to market my songs to other artists.
The music for the demo songs featured on this site have been created in my home studio with me playing all the parts and I do sing on some of them
I have however, recently pursuaded a friend of mine Becky Sneddon (BEX) to record vocal on some of the tracks as I felt they would be better with a female lead vocalist.
I was going to finish by saying I hope you like the tracks, but actually I'm going to say I hope you enjoy whistling along to them. They are unashamedly POP songs - 3 minute ear candy. I am neither a viruoso player or singer , it's the tune and hook that I am 'selling' If you do end up whistling or singing along - I will have achieved the first part of my goal ... and if you know any publishers pass on the details of this site to them and ,who knows ,I may even achieve the second.
