Michelle Bailey's simple and unique “grassy gospel” sound is characterized by the beautiful fiddle harmonies laced throughout her smooth and soulful vocals. Her songs capture an unmistakable reverence for the music she holds closest to her heart.
Michelle Bailey, a fiddler and singer, has been entertaining fans nationwide for over 15 years. She has an internal ear that allows her to hear music harmonies and fiddle runs as she accompanies others and provides harmony vocals. She “cut her teeth” as a musician as a child by performing and singing gospel hymns in church. Her quest in life is to produce and perform beautiful music.
Michelle considers her two greatest music mentors to be her grandfather and her brother. “Grandpa raised me right by always giving me good old country classics to listen to. He helped me learn and appreciate where the roots of country and gospel music came from. I came to realize that the old classics are the foundation of today’s country and gospel music.” Her brother, J. Marc Bailey, also a musician, spent hours with Michelle crafting and developing the rock edge in her playing. They have been making music together from the beginning and she has provided Marc with the edgy harmony vocals and fiddle that has become a distinct signature sound in his music. Together, they have headlined their own concerts and have opened for many major headline acts, including Miranda Lambert, Diamond Rio, Little Texas, Gary Allen, Phil Vassar, Restless Heart, Sawyer Brown, Brian White, Deanna Carter, Earl Thomas Conley, Highway 101, and .38 Special.
She believes that, “the test of true musicianship and artistry comes from what the musician can ‘bring to the table’ and contribute to a song. I love being a part of the creation process. For me, I love to hang out with a good harmony line, either on fiddle or vocals. Harmony adds flavor and color to a song. It’s what makes music come alive.”
Michelle is now finishing up her latest musical project that is expected to be out in stores in April of 2009. In her debut solo album, “A Closer Walk with Thee”, Michelle returns back to the place where music began for her. Her simply unique “grassy gospel” sound is characterized by the beautiful fiddle harmonies laced throughout her smooth and soulful vocals.
