Music has always been a major interest in our household, we are always either listening to it or playing it on whatever instruments we had at the time.
At school I learned to play trombone and euphonium.
On many occasions I found it easier to play by ear than follow the music, over the years this ability has enabled me to replicate many complicated arrangements in fine detail.
My first electronic instrument was the “Stylophone”
In 1979 I built my first keyboard synth (Practical Electronics-MINISONIC). I got so fed up of this synth constantly going out of tune that in 1982 I designed and built a large multi patch synth based on the CURTIS chip which cured the tuning drift problem.
I started playing guitar in pubs with a friend of mine in 1972 for a couple of years, and in 1989 I began to produce my own backing tracks (mainly for my solo guitar covers) by listening to music that I liked, working out and scoring the full music, then reproducing the whole song by playing and programming each instrument part into digital sequencers via keyboards and sound modules.
I compose my own music, but I am mainly a “covers” man, my musical arrangements start from the1940s onwards, (Wartime Classics, Jazz and Big Band Dance tunes, The Shadows to Joe Satriani, Booker T to Jean Michel Jarre, Rick Wakeman to Tangerine Dream)
In 1993 I started to perform solo, playing instrumental keyboard and guitar tunes in concert halls (sit down venue’s) until 1997, a new change in career left me with very little time for music until just recently.
More recently I have dedicated much more time to my acoustic instruments - guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, accordion and bodhran.
In the future my aim is to combine these magnificent acoustic instruments with the wonderful array of synthesizers and digital recording equipment to produce a new platform of creativity.
I enjoy the challenge of covering big artists, bringing forth my own musical identity to each arrangement.
I especially enjoy the mixing when each song is complete – those fine intricate details that make all the difference to the way we listen and appreciate music.
