INTRODUCING............... MARTYR DE MONA
Martyr de Mona are a young four piece grunge/metal act from the Dudley who have been creating quite a buzz within the local rock scene over the past 12 months. With influences ranging from the godfathers of grunge, Nirvana, Godsmack and Mudhoney right through to Therapy?, Tool and Helmet, their music still demonstrates true individuality, yet contains that nostalgic feel of the 90s grunge era with a noughties twist. This band have everything, ass kicking guitar riffs, energetic and up tempo anthems and lyrical songwriting. 2007 was the year that this band worked their socks off to build up their local following. A year later and their hard work has paid off with the band acquiring their much needed loyal and solid fanbase. To top off an incredibly prosperous year for the band, MDM also won Live Band of the Year 2007, gaining them more exposure in the local press, as well as bagging themselves a recording and publishing deal in the process. The focus for the first part of 2008 will be on returning to the studio to record their first album. The band are also prolifically, and will continue writing new material for their live shows. This is another must see band that are destined for great things in 2008. Martyr de Mona have been confirmed to play the Nuneaton Music Festival in May, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief, which is a great opportunity for the band. More dates around Birmingham and across the UK will be added shortly and updates will be posted on this page and the band page (www.myspace.com/martyrdemona).

Well they say music journalists are just failed musicians, I guess it could be true but they are also very useful when it comes to recognising and promoting unique talent. Music is my passion and nothing else gives me more of a buzz than discovering bands that have something special - in other words musicians that are not afraid to be different! There are so many hidden gems that remain undiscovered on the unsigned circuit which provide a welcome escape from the dire state of the mainstream music scene at the moment - Kaiser Chiefs, Hard Fi and Arctic Monkeys and so on and so on! - bland, unimaginative, soulless pre-pubescent pop!
Write up Your Street aim to promote unsigned bands by way of providing live / CD reviews (upon request) to feature on our page and Rock 3. (Also soon to feature on Band of the Month section - under construction at the moment). We are also looking for venues for band nights and currently work with the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath (updates to follow on further venues).
On that note, anyone coming to this page should check out one of the most exciting bands in Birmingham called Martyr de Mona, which Write up your Street is currently managing. they're a welcome entity, putting rock back on the Midlands map and leaving a lasting impression on every crowd they've played in front of. It's not often that something so special and unique comes along that makes everything else seem insignificant and forgettable, but this band really are something else!
cheers Mel, we try our humble best. We've got a couple of local shows coming up on the next 2 Saturdays if you can make it down. Looking forward to hooking up again in the near future. It would be great if you could do a review for us sometime as well. How's Deans new project coming along? C
