NEW HAYDEN THOMPSON CD TO BE RELASED IN 2010 Hayden Thompson, the legendary 50’s Sun Records rockabilly artist, has made yet another superlative recording for Bluelight Records in Finland. The follow-up on the fabulous 2007 country album Hayden Thompson digs deeper into the rockabilly roots of the performer. Masterly accompanied by his dream team, the Bluelight Records All Stars lead by Olli Haavisto, Hayden takes us back to the 50’s and 60’s with fresh approach and inborn poise. Recorded in Petrax, a top trim studio built inside an old Finnish cow house, this thrilling compilation of intuitively arranged rarities and favorites alike offers a heartfelt portrait of a Southern country boy in the Windy City. For a Hayden Thompson connoisseur this album holds many treats: Cheese & Crackers, a blues humoresque originally cut by Roscoe Gordon for Sun Records in 1957, is now recorded by the Great Storyteller himself for the very first time. The catchy, melancholy rumba Whatcha Gonna Do, also written by Hayden, will most certainly pack the dance floor. The other revision on the album, Hayden’s signature song Love My Baby (written by Junior Parker), obtained a slightly darker finish than the early Sun Records recording by Hayden in 1957, mainly due to the ample baritone rhythm guitar of Tommi Viksten. The hypnotic tremolo of the guitar amplifier brings a real honky-tonk feel to the first Cash choice, Rock And Roll Ruby, originally recorded by a fellow Sun Records artist Warren Smith. The easy-access presentation of Without Love sets an intriguing contrast to the stark, biblical jeremiad of the lyrics, and the happy rolling piano boogie of Hey Porter makes the Tennessee train ride a pleasure indeed. The other railroad song, Long Black Train, was written by Conway Twitty. The Brook Benton cover Hurtin’ Inside rumbles on like a gospel praise, when the Carl Perkins tune Honey ’Cause I Love You and the Bob Luman ballad Still Loving You exhibit Hayden Thompson’s vast nuance palette from the gentler side. The surprising unplugged version of You’re A Heartbreaker with a dream-like ostinato of two nylon-string acoustic guitars carrying Hayden’s velvety voice is a definite jewel. Also the cowboy number Pretty Lou with the Jerry Lee Lewis influenced pianism of Pekka Gröhn stands out as a true musical adventure. Bluelight Records is looking for licenses in other countries than Finland, feel free to contact us at bluelight.records@co.inet.fi
