Music
I think Music is the voice of the Creator. Through sound, the heart and soul, body and mind are pulled into existence and activity, the act of creation. Harmony is established. The tides are moved, the winds are stirred. Change occurs. Music is everywhere, in everything animate and alive. Without music, there is no life.
Movies
We have critics who show us their opinion by the direction of their thumbs, and we have countless magazine reviews that tell us what we should see by handing out stars. We also have a whole slew of cinematic award shows, but can we really trust the few elite that have political, financial, and relational agendas when making their choices to tell us what the best movies are? (I'm looking at you Academy Awards) No thanks, I'd rather not. So how do we decide what's good? I suppose I'd never really thought about what actually constitutes a "good" movie to me. I always figured it was like what my dad would say if I brought home a chick that he thought was trouble. "I know it when I see it." Also, I'm a moody moviegoer. By that I mean that sometimes I'm in the mood to see something that requires little or no brain activity, and I just want to escape and be entertained. Therefore, a completely ridiculous movie might be "good" to me at that time. Other times I want the movie to engage me emotionally, intellectually and even spirtually. I want to see the passion and the statement that the directors and the writers are trying to make with this piece. I still wouldn't say that I have the formula or the answer for what makes a quality movie, but upon comparing two very different movies in class, I realized there's something very important to me when I watch a movie. I want a movie to have integrity in its purpose
