About me:
Lameking.net was my bastard son that started back in 1998 (Really), when an unknowing high school computer teacher decided to teach HTML to our class with the final project being a website that was free of errors and could offer some value to the Internet (Right…). I started off making a site about Warcraft2, with rush strategies and building orders, (Imagine how cool it was trying to explain that one to girls) but that quickly and unwillingly turned into a weblog as various friends dispersed to different colleges and I wanted a way to let everyone know what I was doing, without exerting the effort of daily communication.
Back in 1998, sites like mine were called “EN” sites or “Everything/Nothing” due to the nature of our content and the creed that floated around was “Oh you have a WebBLOG? How cool!” and it was actually the in-thing to do. Thanks to free blogging platforms and 14 year old girls, these sites quickly became the scum of the internet because of cam whores, no-talent hacks, and over saturation of non-funny or comedic sites and everyone copying one another with content.
My site went though about 15 or so different layouts and designs (Many new layouts came from fans offering their talents and services for free), and somehow remained and retained it’s audience base while everyone was leaving the blogging arena in lue of girlfriends, real jobs, or actual interests and/or hobbies outside of the Interbutt. Lameking bounced around on various servers and some friends even hooked me up for a while with free hosting (West-Beach, 8itch.org, Onestarleft, and now Xmike). I’ve also owned the domain since 1997, and with a recent purchase, I have this locked up until 2013, so pending any catastrophic incidents, this site is going to live on and be my legacy forever on the inter tubes.
Due to Lameking’s “popularity” I was even invited to guest post on a number of sites much more popular and trafficked than mine. I also received numerous link requests from web friends all over the country, and even some overseas. Lameking also received 50+ fan signs and I even got a girl to write my name on her boobs, some guy shaved “Spooner” on his cat, and one of my extended family members turned out to be a fan of my site without knowing it was me piloting the ship.
My site remained banner-free for a majority of it’s lifetime, as I viewed this site as a creative outlet that many people could relate to (See: frustration with women, awkward social situations, and the everyday problems of stepping in dog pop and accidental arson and/or poisoning) rather than one of those crappy beggar “Please click here so I can make $1.00? type of sites. I kept things real, honest, and genuine and I think that people really got a kick out of a lot of my posts. Some of the most famous ones were when I poisoned a freshman girl with raw chicken juice, stepped in dog pop with brand new Nike Shox, and drove a car into a swimming pool.
2008 brings a breath of fresh air into Lameking, and fans, I'm here to stay.
