  • Return to Roseville timeline

    Current mood:restless

Hey everyone! Still stuck here in England at the moment, but I know some of you have been and are curious about when we'll be moving back to Roseville. Paula and I have talked and set out a timeline of the next year about the process so I'm going to post it here to keep you guys in the loop and let you know what's going down, when.

    Sept/Oct:

The first step is to start Paula's immigration process. That is initiated by submitting a bunch of forms that basically declare your intent to apply for a visa.

    December:

We'll put up the house for sale sometime in December. Not many people buy in the winter, but we're hoping 6 months is enough time for it to sell, and having it going in Spring will be best.

    Feb/March:

It'll take around 5 months for them to process the intent to immigrate forms, after which they'll send me a visa packet full of more forms for me to fill out and send back. They process this packet within a few weeks, after which they'll give us an interview date for Paula to attend.

    April:

Paula will probably have her interview in London sometime in April. It's going to be a pain in the ass having to go to London for that as it's pretty far from us. Not only that, but a few days before the interview, she has to have a medical exam so it means a stay over in London, which is difficult with a toddler. We also at some point in this timeline have to make an extra trip to London to get Jack's American visa. Blech. But the good news, if all goes well, Paula will get her Visa.

    May:

Hopefully we'll have an offer in on the house by May, and the Visa secured. If so, May is when we'll be packing up what we're taking and getting into the mindset of an international move.

    June:

Land in Roseville! We'll start off either renting somewhere in Roseville or shacking up with my parents at first. Most of June will be spent looking for jobs and getting settled in Roseville, and for me, reconnecting with my buddies.

So there you go guys. That's the official timeline and hopefully we'll stick to it if all goes well. I hope that the 4 years I'll have spent in England haven't put me so far out of the group that I won't be able to come back in.  I miss you all and can't wait until we're able to BBQ, shoot the shit, or just play some video games together.

Leave a comment if you have any questions or want me to bring anything back for you from England.

  • Starting the process

    Current mood:hopeful

As I’m sure many of you are sitting with bated breath contemplating my dramatic return to Sacramento, I bring good news. More seriously, I value everyone who takes the time to read this as a dear friend of mine, so I feel it’s important to keep you guys in the loop as I’m very much looking forward to seeing you all again. I hope our friendships haven’t been neglected, changed, or strained while I’ve been in England.

We’ve already started the lengthy process that is required when selling a house and moving to another country. When my wife bought our house here in England, it was pretty cheap and run down. She and I have spent a lot of time and some money fixing it up ourselves and now estimate it’s worth at least three times what she paid. And considering each English pound is worth 2 dollars, we’ll make a pretty decent profit in dollars and hopefully have enough to make a comfortable start in Sacramento.

Anyway, I’m almost finished fixing up the house to make it as saleable as possible, and at the same time, the Visa process needs to be started which I’ll be doing soon. It can take around 6 months to secure a Visa, but once we have it, my wife will be able to enter the US and immediately apply for a green card. Jack, being my son, will automatically become a US citizen as soon as he enters so that’s nice and easy.

So we’re looking at 9-12 months until we set foot in Sacramento, so start planning the homecoming party! Also, if any of you have any leads on a job that I can pick up as soon as I get off the plane, please let me know. Paula will take her time looking for a good one as she’s much more qualified than I am, but I’ll need to make some money asap.

Also, let me know if you want anything or gifts from England and I’ll make sure to bring it with me on our triumphant return home.
