About me:

I'm the author of The Gone-Away World, which comes out in the UK on June 5th, and in the US on September 2nd.

I'm married, delighted, amazed, and at the time of writing this I have a stinking sore throat which is making me tetchy. I love the word 'bewildered', which means literally 'lost in a pathless place'. I have a copy of the full Oxford English Dictionary in my home, and sometimes I get lost in it, finding words like 'mollag' and definitions of words like 'bewildered'. Someone at the OED needs to be cutting a deal to get the OED into Word Processing programs as a plugin.

I'm naturally quiet, shy, and retiring, and if you believe that, I have a line to this nice metal tower the French are selling off cheap; good views of Paris, you might like to buy it, I can put you in touch with the right bloke for half a million quid.

I like: dogs, cheeses, succulent words, summer, winter, spring, and autumn, Utah, Cornwall, old houses, really cool modern houses, technology, and other things which I'm not going to mention here because they're private.

I don't like: shellfish. Or offal. Or value-environmental dissynchronization. Or brains; I don't care how you dress them up, I'm not eating them. Yuck.
