Andre's Blurbs |
About me:
I don't know; Tell me what you think.
Someone who every once in a while wants to get off the information superhighway and own a bar and relax. Then I realize that as much fun as I would have writing stories about the people I would meet, I would get bored and want to find the next adventure.
Already living a great one; Bronx, NY native, lived in Savannah, GA for 11 years and now one of those people that most hate because they love what they get up in the morning and do, everyday (except when vacation time rolls around) while living in one of the cooler cities in the Southeast: Birmingham, AL.
Those that really know me also know I am pretty opinionated, so I got on board this whole blogging thing:
http://dresramblings.wordpress.com
I'm also running an online newspaper focused on Birmingham, Alabama specifically:
http://bhamterminal.com
I figure let what happens next happen and to enjoy the moments that are given to you. I just need a place to vent every once in a while when the moments or thoughts warrant.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
Old friends, new acquaintances and people to share new adventures with. People who every once in a while like to slow down and enjoy life, look up and see what's going on around them.

Katie Turinski makes her filmmaking debut with Sissyboy, a documentary following a group of Portland-area gender-benders and the final performances of their ambitious troupe.

A Birmingham SHOUT Fundraiser
Set in an all-male school, the story follows Timothy who suffers the wrath of his homophobic classmates. He withdraws into his imagination where macho rugby players morph into dancing fairies decked in go-go boy attire. When asked to star in the school play he first balks at acting. As Timothy eventually embraces the mischievous character of Puck, he finds the secret to a magical pansy that seems to turn people gay! He then puckishly imposes a new reality by turning much of his narrow-minded town gay, beginning with the rugby-jock of his dreams.
limited seating available
$10 advance, $12 day of event

Come join my cause: Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity! You will be able to recruit friends, raise money, and add a profile badge to show your support!
Hey guys. In 2009 Dallas Habitat is trying to raise 1000 friends and $10,000 from supporters on mySpace. Top Friend Recruiters or 'Frienders' will get real prizes sent to them monthly. (I know this because I will be sending out the prizes, and they are not lame)
Also Top Fund Raiser for the Year will not only get an awesome tax write off but will also get a $2500 Warehouse Build Day! You and 9 of your friends/ family/ posse get a full day of building in our huge build shop learning how to build walls, doors, windows, and everything else that goes into the making of a home. You will be taught by the friendly Corps who build homes for deserving families every day and really know their stuff.
Best of all, the house that you put together in the warehouse won't just be a learning experience. Every part of the home that you build will end up as the wall, window, and door of a deserving family's new home.
So come on, join the cause. Donate $10 this year. (I will personally send you a Habi Bracelet if you do!) Recruit friends, win prizes, make an impact.

Birmingham SHOUT presents the Academy Award-winning documentary that inspired the epic new movie Milk starring Sean Penn and directed by Gus Van Sant. The Times of Harvey Milk tells the story of this human rights pioneer with news footage from 1970s San Francisco and interviews with Milk’s colleagues.
Before the film is a screening of Bulldigger. This short documentary explores the challenges local State Representative Patricia Todd faced as Alabama’s first openly gay candidate. Howard Bayless, J.R. Finney, and John Smallwood are also featured. Patricia Todd is scheduled to participate in a post-screening Q&A.

Drama and divas and duct tape, oh my! Welcome to the world of Pageant, the exhilarating backstage documentary about the 34th Miss Gay America Pageant. Greeted by standing ovations at film festivals across the country (and winner of the coveted “Audience Award” in San Francisco, Miami and New York), Pageant follows five men as they compete to be Miss Gay America. As we get to know these men and their supportive families and friends, we come to appreciate the hard work and sacrifice that it takes to be one of the most fabulous female impersonators in the nation. Before long, the suspense, sparkle and surprise of the actual competition take over as we anxiously anticipate whose wig might finally cradle the tiara. Yet, amidst the astounding production numbers, astonishing physical transformations and antic costume changes, Pageant remains a simple, inspirational story of the beauty realized while pursuing one’s dreams.
