~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I have the best husband in the world. He says things like, "I need to figure out how I'm going to dress when I'm an old dude." Random hilarity is my life with him.

I have found the answer to pain in connection with God, others, and self.

I am drawn to joy and hope so I try to laugh a lot and think about possibilities. I aim to follow Jesus. I am a thinker and a feeler. I am happily married. I am a tired doctoral student. I value spirituality, personal growth and healing, genuine relationships, people's differences, being present in the moment, and the responsible use of power. Right now, I'm rediscovering fun. And this statement is constantly under construction, so...check back.

You have made us for yourself, O God, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. - St. Augustine

"I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing." -Agatha Christie

My approach to my self and my work:
"Just as we cannot force a plant to grow but can take away the weeds and stones which prevent its development, so we cannot force anyone to such a personal intimate change of heart, but we can offer space where such change can take place." -Henri J. M. Nouwen

"Without knowledge of self, there is no knowledge of God. Without knowledge of God, there is no knowledge of self." - Calvin

Octavio Paz (1978), the Nobel Prize winning Mexican essayist, poet, and writer, wrote the following:
"What sets worlds in motion is the interplay of differences, their attractions and repulsions. Life is plurality, death is uniformity. By suppressing differences and peculiarities, by eliminating different civilizations and cultures, progress weakens life and favors death. The ideal of a single civilization for everyone, implicit in the cult of progress and technique, impoverishes and mutilates us. Every view of the world that becomes extinct, every culture that disappears, diminishes a possibility of life. (Paz, 1978)

Yeap, 3 weeks after the President personally ensured the R&D staff that he would not be making any cuts to our staff because he needs us and can write off R&D salaries in taxes. So on the 22nd our spineless manager laid off 2/3 of us. It sucks.

Detroit is brutal right now. It is a good thing that you no longer live here.
