About me:
Kathy and Lynn are both hardworking academics and unapologetic fangirls, which explains our current collaborative project: a book on fandom, convergence and community. Kathy's an English professor and Lynn's a Psychology professor at two universities on the east coast, a combination of backgrounds that gives us a unique perspective on the role of fandom in contemporary culture. We're also serious Supernatural fans, and working hard to get the fabulous film Ten Inch Hero out there where it deserves to be, for our friend Betsy and just because it's awesome! When we're not working, we're proud mums to four fabulous children and blessed with two of the best guys ever, who offer the male perspective on fandom from time to keep us grounded. :)
Kathy has been referred to, and fondly refers to herself, as a pop culture whore. Fortuitous, since it got her to thinking about the ways we interact with (or resist) the mainstream culture we all call home. Which led to teaching several classes on fame, celebrity, and fandom. Which led to the book. Which led her here. You can also find her on Facebook
Lynn is not known as a pop culture whore, however she IS known for a fascination with getting inside people's heads, which led to being a psychologist, and then to teaching and researching. Fortuitous as well, because that led to wanting to get inside the collective heads of the folks who have such an influence on what gets written/created/produced creatively -- the fans. Which also led (as everything seems to these days!) to the book.
Who I'd like to meet: We're meeting them every day! (OK - how corny is that - even if it is true. We've meet some amazing people over the course of the last year after all.) Of the ones we're not meeting though, Kathy would like to meet Tom Stoppard and her father (and how random is that!). Lynn will get back to y'all about who she wants to meet.
