  • Bio

I picked up the guitar about 20 years ago and haven't managed to put it down for too much longer than it takes to make soup. I like just about every kind of music when it's done well, and I've tried my hand at writing for almost every genre. Now that I've been at it for a while, I've started to see how, like most people, I'm influenced by the music that surrounded me in my formative years: Mom's movie musicals, brother's Bee Gees and Little River Band, three sisters' Beatles, Boston, ELO, Styx, Foreigner, Eagles, Bay City Rollers, etc., etc. My first record was Hall and Oates "Voices." That probably explains a lot. What can I say, I love a good melody! It's funny- when you feel like you've expanded your musical horizons exponentially- to see things come out in your writing and playing that were embedded a long time ago (hey, how did this show tune get in here?). I joined my first band about 10 years ago, and since then have had the good fortune to play on just about every major stage in Madison and Milwaukee (and many many very very minor ones) with some of this area's best musicians. I've done hard rock, blues, light jazz, pop, americana, country; played electric, acoustic and bass guitar in everything from singer-songwriter duos up to a 7-piece band. I've even played a couple of shows on drums (desperate times, etc.). Last year I finally ventured into solo performance, making my solo debut (through a series of coincidences and lucky breaks) at Summerfest in Milwaukee. I's been a privilege to experience such a variety of music-making, and I hope it just keeps going and expanding from here! I'm always looking for people to play with, so drop me a line if you like what you hear. Thanks for stopping by! Peace, Dan---------------p.s.- I'll be doing some blog entries with specific info about some of the songs in my player, influences, favorite bands, etc., so check them out if you want to know more.
