  • Bio

Bread and Bottle is a Chicago punk rock band formed in 2005. Band founder Gus Fuller played guitar for the Repellents while bassist Ryan Scaccia currently plays bass with labelmates Das Kapital. Nothing would be complete without rhythm guitar player Eric Scaccia, and drummer/vocalist Donald Murphy..... "Long Story Short" our debut full-length was recorded by Nat Wright (Bassist of Shotbaker) at Moon Conspiracy Studio. --Guest vocals were done by our best friend, Jimmy Assmunch of the much-hated and super Queercore band Sass Dragons. Get the record from JohannsFace.com here!.. ............Reviews of "Long Stoy Short"...... Like a bar-band take on Billy Reese Peters. Grabass Charlestons and Bad Religion. Songs about "lying bitches" who are trying to "steal (your) brother." At least I'm 90% sure that's what the lyrics say -- there's no lyric sheet. Awful on many levels. To call this shitty would be demeaning to my turds -- ....Maximum Rock N Roll.., P$.. .... ....Translated from German...... Friends from Chicago make together music: Gus Fuller plays also with The Repellents- bassist Ryan Scaccia plays also with Das Kapital, which is committed again with, all age performance space named Lucky Gator Loft and in such a way one comes on the other hand, new bound, new label and album - and bound of johanns face record boss Marc. From the first choir singing it sounds matching to Chicago- Arrivals, Das Kapital, Screeching Weasel, 88 Finger Louie and Naked Raygun. Pop Punk thus in the conceivably best form, rather melancholy as, best Chicago-bands. the kind of music, which me a charm immediately in the face.....OX.. Joachim Hiller...... Bread and Bottle are a cool band from Chicago Illinois. These guys take on an “old school” Chicago sound that will inspire images of the Effigies and Naked Raygun and play it in an updated form that sounds new and vital. Neither the CD or the website tell me which one of these guys handled the majority of the vocals, but whoever it was sounds like a mix of Glenn Danzig and John Kedzy, and I really like it. Long Story Short is basically a pop record that is able to sneak around the edge of traditional pop punk and employ a very sleazy infectious attitude that gives the album an almost dark edge. These guys are pretty cool and play quite a bit in the Chicago area, so check em out, and visit www.johannsface.com for a copy of the CD if you aren't from the Chicagoland area. -- ....Jersey Beat.., Chris Mattern.. .... I feel like a hack referring to Bread And Bottle as "Chicago punk rock." Maybe it's because I've only been living here a year, so I really don't know what that originally meant, and since there such a variety of sounds currently coming out from bands like The Arrivals, Sass Dragons, Tongues, and A/V Murder, that it makes it hard to find anything unifying. But, this has that meat and potatoes feel that I get from Pegboy and Raygun and always associate with Chicago, just with a bit more melody thrown in. It's catchy as fuck and the dogs I walk are probably sick of me singing the parts of "Roosevelt" I get stuck in my head on a daily basis (though not as sick as I was hearing the Repellents covering it once...yeesh!). They've got two of the Brothers Scaccia, who throw loft shows in a city where house shows don't really exist and put out awesome stuff on Lucky Gator Records (they co-released this with Johann's Face, run by Marc Ruvalo, whose band Das Kapital shares Ryan Scaccia on bass with Bread And Bottle. Yeah, it sort of feels like San Pedro, and that's always a good feeling). If you like catchy and fun and dancing and guitar players who spin on one foot and drummer-singers and pretty amazing bass playing, then you should probably buy this and invite me over for a dance party. Well, except I already have it and I'm not too keen on strangers. –- ....Razorcake.., Megan Pants..
