About me:A group of teens from the wrong side of Budapest's tracks band together to make themselves rich by traveling back in time, burying a horde of wooly mammoths under the city's streets, then returning to the present and drilling for oil. As creators of a new oil-producing nation, their scheme draws the attention of Putin (who uses the district’s Russian hookers as spies), Blair and George W. Bush. In the midst of it all, star-crossed teen love is in bloom.
This outrageous and visually stunning animated satire plays like an unhinged ghetto updating of Romeo & Juliet smash-filtered through a politically-charged – and politically-incorrect - kaleidoscope of clashing world views and social unrest, complete with musical numbers and a wicked soundtrack of Hungarian hip-hop.
You have never seen anything like it.

Who I'd like to meet:
“Like an Eastern European SOUTH PARK.” – SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
"A last-minute shoo-in for the title of 2007's most original animated film, no small triumph in a year that also included the releases of "Persepolis," "Ratatouille," "Beowulf" and "Paprika... a sexually explicit, scabrously funny portrait of multiethnic European urban culture, similar to Ralph Bakshi's early-1970s adults-only animated movies "Fritz the Cat" and "Heavy Traffic," but richer and more coherent than either of those." - NEW YORK TIMES
"Startlingly original... Has to be seen to be fully fathomed" - AIN'T IT COOL NEWS
“Novel… a rap-infused, animated musical love story that morphs into a satiric geopolitical thriller” –VARIETY
“Kinetic and stylish. Pimp/Gang/Thug culture, Hungarian Hip-Hop musical numbers and over-the-top satire on machismo, racism, and global politics are a sampling of the chewy bits on this film’s overflowing plate. It was worth the wait- TWITCH FILM
"A bold, vulgar treat, full of hip-hop serenades, dancing Russian hookers, international intrigue, and all manner of goofs on the ghetto culture we've exported so successfully to the Wild East" - SEATTLE WEEKLY
“Very much its own beast… offers viewers valuable lessons on time travel, pimping, oil production and the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. And who knew Hungarian hip-hop was so amazingly cool? – EYE WEEKLY
“The most original-looking animated feature since WAKING LIFE” – PHILADELPHIA CITY PAPER
'Fans of animation, street culture and fever-dream creativity should be jumping métro turnstiles on their way to Cinéma du Parc right now... Move over, South Park. This is satire, Budapest style... The District has to be seen to be believed, and you really should. – 4 STARS' –THE MONTREAL GAZETTE
"Dark humor, bright satire. As a free-associating spoof of the modern world, it's a hoot." - THE SEATTLE TIMES
“Budapest Bizarre. The world’s first Hungarian animated quasi-political sexually explicit rap musical. Really... freaky” - THE MONTREAL MIRROR
"The distinctive animation style, biting comedy, and a plot that swings from “Romeo and Juliet” to a time traveling geo-political thriller, all combine to make this one of the most unique cinematic experiences of the decade." - BOSTON FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL 2007
