    Sacred Scars is out NOW and available in bookstores and online. I AM WRITING THE THIRD BOOK IN THE TRILOGY NOW!!! It is swallowing me whole, and turning so many odd directions that I can barely keep up. I apologize for not getting to RUSSET more often. Will try harder. The Third Virgin, a short story for a Holly Black/Justine Larbalastier anthology. It's a weird little story, so it ought to fit. Amazing writers are involved I am honored. Free Rat and A Virgin's Blood (what's my deal with virginity this year???) are perking along, the files growing, steeping. Virgin's blood will be next after STAYS, I think. A partial/proposal of STAYS is out with publishers now. Holding my breath. Ok. My interests right now?: Magic's true costs, courage, special effects make up, wing amputation, British Royalty circa 1732, Hollywood, cults, belief systems that deny all other belief systems, light deprivation, blood-loss induced anemia, 18th century underwear,12th century medical practices, Kryolan, and the effects of isolation.     lately: BenX, heartbreaking right up until it...isn't!! Away We Go, nice movie about love....Sunshine--really good, really sad, Let the Right One In...amazing. I saw Wall E , finally. Loved it. Now I will find UP on netflix... The Brothers Bloom--a portrait of con artists and a strange puzzle of a plot.

    Not much TV these days...am reading more and more, though, mostly reseach for various projects. The Daily Show, if I make it to bed on time. I still mourn Deadwood. Loved True Blood in a silly way, but not enough to keep watching it. Bored to Death is funny and true and sad...

    I am reading research every minute I can... I'm starting to feel like I know the German family that was dredged up and shipped to London to take over when Queen Ann died without an heir in the 1700's. For the same project, I am reading about homocide investigation in Brentwood: LA, CA, the paparazzi, reality shows and 18th century underwear: Oh, yes the underwear matters, in every era, in every way... For Free Rat I am clipping and saving a zillion articles on Climate Change and all the exciting discoveries of earthlike planets... the light deprivation and winsuit stuff is for that one, too... http://www.marquise.de/en/1700/howto/frauen/18corset.shtml

    I am not sure I believe in heros. Oh. Wait. Librarians, Teachers and Independent Booksellers. Those who further civilization by questioning it. I know it might tick some people off, but I love the man who threw the shoes. He has lost most of his family in that manufactured war. He didn't try to kill anyone: It wasn't revenge. He just found the perfect outlet for his justified, understandable rage. He is a hero in Iraq--and the company that makes his shoes is *booming*. The head of sales at Baydan Shoes says since the incident they have had orders for 370,000 pairs. They've hired a hundred people to cope with the surge in demand. Normally the firm sells only 15,000 pairs a year.
