  • 22nd Century releases 2nd CD, covering Martha & the Muffin's "Echo Beach"!

VANCOUVER, Jan. 6 /CNW/ - Following up on 2009's successful debut CD "The Twenty Second Century, Canada's 22nd Century released "Where's Howie?!!". Produced by legendary rock producer John Webster (credits: Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Scorpians, Motley Crue) and mastered by Todd Simko (Pure), Where's Howie was recorded in Vancouver's Mushroom studios and released Jan 6, 2011 on Bugnut Records. The 10 song CD includes covers of Martha and the Muffins "Echo Beach" and The Angel's (aka "Angel City") No Secrets which charted in Australia as high as #8 in 1980.

22nd Century recorded the new CD with punk rock superstar Zippy Pinhead (Credits: The Mutants, The Dils, D.O.A.) on drums to fill the void of Glen Gaupholm who left the band in 2009. The trio have briefly toured, playing to audiences in North America while enjoying success from the first CD including winning the popular vote in a National battle of the bands contest, being nominated by the Somojo UK as a finalist for "Rock Artist of the Year" and having radio airplay in dozens of countries worldwide.

"The band's three members, Duane Chaos, Tim Plommer and Zippy Pinhead, have really merged their musical direction" stated Eddy Bugnut of the band's label. "The songwriting is really strong in the singles Teenage Underwear Model and U Generation as well as the title track, Howie the Skid. When I first heard U Generation it reminded me of The Who's earlier live performances. It is a song that basically kicks you in the face from start to finish".

The CD's will are available via most popular digital distribution sites such as iTunes, Rhapsody and Napster while the band's label uses many Web 2.0 social media patterns to market the music via their own network.

  • Canadian Indie Rock band wins award, may be heading to India

..Duane Chaos, Tim Plommer, and Zippy Pinhead of the Canadian Rock Band 22nd Century are asking you to "Mark your calendars for the next seven days because we need your vote!" Having won the Vancouver stage of the ‘Bands On The Run to India 2010' contest, the band must now garner enough votes to triumph over 6 other bands in the final stage of the contest, sponsored by Supernova. You can help 22nd Century win by voting for them once each day athttp://www.supernova.com/shows/10044 beginning today, June 28th through July 5th, 2010.

The contest began with an initial qualifying round where several bands applied to perform at city showcases. After the initial cut, SuperNova selected an average of six bands per city (Ottawa, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Kitchener). In BC, the selected bands each played a 40 minute set, and 22nd Century was selected as the Vancouver winner by judges and voting audience members. The contest has now entered Phase 3, where bands from the other Canadian cities will to perform at Independence Rock XXV, India's biggest rock festival, to a crowd of over 200,000 people on August 15, 2010. Judges for the next phase of the contest include Andy Curran, A&R Director at SRO Management and Anthem Entertainment, Victor Mijares, Director of A&R for Warner Music, and Joel Baskin, President and Founder of the Pilot Agency.

22nd Century is comprised of members Duane Chaos (a.k.a "Duane Nickull" on bass/vocals), Tim Plommer (guitar/vocals) and Zippy Pinhead (drums/percussion); three veteran musicians with long lists of credits in various bands. Their 6 track debut album "The Twenty Second Century," released in January 2009, was met with much critical acclaim. Commenting on the album, The Association of Rock and Roll Podcasts said, "22nd Century's hard punching and sometimes comical style is a mixture of Ramones style power punk with a healthy dose of 1990's grunge." Adobe TV has played 22nd Century's songs over 1,000,000 times in the last 24 months. The album also received an honorable mention in Billboard's 2009 song writing contest. Their single "509" landed on the number 1 spot on the UK Independent Chart Somojo in December 2009. The band recently completed the recording of their second album with legendary producer John Webster who has worked with bands such as Aerosmith, The Cult, Motley Crue and Metallica.

Together since 2008, 22nd Century has helped to raised money for several charitable causes, and is scheduled to perform on July 8th at the Concert For A Cure, which funds research for cervical, breast and ovarian cancer. Any proceeds that exceed their expenses in India will be donated to a charitable cause such as helping to clean up the Gulf, build more schools in Tanzania, and fight the HST and other issues they feel strongly about.
  • Zippy in the news again!

  • Bloodied but Unbowed (aka thepunkmovie.com)

Bloodied But Unbowed chronicles the late 1970s/early 1980s Vancouver punk rock scene. Vancouver filmmaker Susanne Tabata's documentary tells a tale of rebellion and music — a fiercely independent scene created from nothing and played out in a microcosm of urban squalor. Told by its surviving stars whose accounts are suffused with both humour and gritty realism — a distinctly Vancouver vibe. A brutally honest story from the streets and stages of the West Coast through interviews, music, photos, and archival performances. Overarching those halcyon days of poverty and excess is the MUSIC — that moved its audience to their feet and seemed to validate their very existence.

Our very own Zippy Pinhead is in this film.  PROOT!  Drink Poonlser Beer!
