.. .. 22 consist of two players: Brian “BC” Claffey: mandolin(s), dobro and harmonica; and, Joe “Joe” Giltner: guitar, vocals & tambo-shoe. They met by a serendipitous yet confusing combination of events, happenstance and “fate” in Oklahoma. Joe was running from an angry badger following a virtually unprovoked altercation inside a dumpster at the rear of a popular “gentlemen’s” establishment. It seems the badger was at least as, if not more, interested in the practically untouched, almost wholly uneaten styrofoam box of hot wings to which Joe also intended to lay claim. While attempting to subdue the badger (i.e.: remove it from his face) Joe, screaming like a little schoolgirl, was inadvertently struck and/or run completely over by Brian’s car as he unceremoniously “left” (by which I mean “fled”) the establishment. The ever-rakish Brian, though a “gentleman,” (as evidenced by his preceding presence in said establishment) was not amused. Out of sheer compassion and/or panic, Brian agreed to transport the badger to seek medical care and have Joe’s face surgically removed from it’s underbelly. .. .. Brian was running from a series of bar owners who were trying to collect bar tabs. Seems his Budweiser credit card account was over its' limit. .. .. After the badger incident (which they now laughingly refer to as “the badger incident”) Joe & Brian became fast friends and outlaws, unmercifully tracked by a fierce coalition of vigilante animal activists and bar owners (the infamous FCOVAAABO) throughout the western half of the eastern Oklahoma panhandle. Brian and Joe (aka: "the boys") figured the best way to escape their troubles was to get out of town and take up a different trade. It had to be one that afforded them much leisure time so that they could pursue the important things in life, did not require any special skills, did not ordinarily involve badgers, and could be done in the general vicinity of alcohol...”musician” was the logical choice. .. .. They have been honing their trade at a variety of saloons and parties for the better part of 11 days now. They play covers by Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash and Lucinda Williams as well as their own "special" brand of originals where it is more difficult to hear "mistakes" (they refer to it as "alternate chords" or "jazz"). They receive many requests, but continue to play anyway. Their fans say their favorite part of the show is when they are finished, leaving the audience wanting no more.
