21st Century Network was set up to discuss some of the great issues of our millennium and bring back the hope that we can do something about it. This is a group for those who believe that we need to develop a new form of humanism that includes people of all religions and none but who embrace humanistic values as the basis of their actions. These are values of global compassion, personal self-discovery, shared development, planetary concern and a love of community. One commentator states,
"I think this group has the potential to make a very important contribution on a number of global challenges that are and will affect our lives in the future. By inviting members of the public, NGO practicioners, policy makers and government representatives to these meetings the group could become an important think tank on a number of issues fostering important linkages between the state and civil society in Britain and beyond. Join this group and be part of this process."
We would love you to join us if you believe in these principles and wish to strengthen the humanist philosophy contained here. At the moment we have started a London group with over 1600 members on meet up and over 1,000 friends here.
This meeting will give members a chance to talk about the development of 21st Century Network both in terms of our meeting and our social action groups. We will begin it in a general session and then divide up into different groups to discuss the development of * Social Action (and this maybe more than one group) and * The development of our meetups and mini meetups as well. This is a chance to continue to get the social action groups off the ground and to plan for the future.

.... ....Climate change, global migrations and resource shortage will place the world and its governments under enormous strain in the next 50 years. Do we have an international system of co-operation that can cope? Will liberal democracies survive or are we headed for illiberal and authoritarian regimes? This meeting is being organised with some branches of the United Nations Association because they feel that the our existing system of world governance is not adequate to meet the challenges that will face us in the future.

In these critical times the solution to our problems lies deeper than a single answer to any particular challenge. Our world is too complex and too interconnected for superficial answers. We need to address the underlying context for how we deal with problems and approach all of life. We need to change at the deepest level of ourselves, at the level of consciousness itself. This meetup is about what we can do ourselves. Will human nature in crisis descend to a damaging selfishness or can consciousness be raised to another level that is positive?

Tackling climate change and reducing our carbon footprint is about changing personal behaviour but it is also about changing corporate and government behaviour too. Without the major consumers of energy making significant and technological changes then maintaining a sustainable planet will be impossible. In this meeting we are going to look at how changes can take place at the high tech end and how corporations must get involved. We will have three case studies of those who are making a difference and then discuss how we can make this the practice in all our major institutions and businesses.

.In this meeting we want to discuss the importance and role of the voluntary sector in the 21st century. Globally, voluntary and campaigning groups have expanded so that they now probably represent the greatest social movement the world has ever known. At the same time Governments are drawing in the larger voluntary groups into the contract culture and through commissioning getting them to deliver services. This causes a tension in the voluntary sector and raises questions over what civil society is and what its nature should be. This will be the focus of this meeting. this meeting will take place at the House of Commons and speakers will include

We are holding a joint mini meetup in partnership with The Sock Mob to look at the problem of homelessness, its scale, its impact and the good work some organisations like the Sock Mob are doing. .
Homelessness is a universal signifier of marginalisation, worldwide 'phenomenon', and has to be taken seriously. Many of the homeless are 'invisible' homeless and many are the new migrants/refugees. The homeless suffer the psychology of isolation, loneliness and alienation and this can underpin a host of social ills.
