About me:

GlobalNet21 started as 21st Century Network in April 2007 to discuss some of the great issues of the 21st century and then follow this up with further debate and action. It is about enlarging the Public Square where debate takes place using social networks to engage new audiences both locally and globally..

Common Concern

During that time the network has expanded rapidly and our activities have developed further. The purpose is to create and expand engagement in the public square between citizens as well as corporations, government and NGOs where there is a common concern for the sustainability of both our planet and the people on it.

Debate & Discussion.

In the UK we hold public engagement meetings regularly that are well attended and involve citizens, NGO’s, corporations and decision makers.These meetings are held in different venues including the House of Commons. Some of our meetings are large well attended events and others are organised around more in depth discussion in smaller groups.

Social Networks.

We now have over 2500 members on the meetup site, over 1,000 friends on myspace and 1700 on linkedin as well as a presence on twitter and facebook. Social networking has now become a major tool in enhancing democratic discussion.It introduces new audiences of people of all ages and backgrounds to the public forum of discussion and debate about the major issues facing us in the 21st Century.

Local & Global.

We started on the meetup site through a group based around London but now we have local groups in North London, Toronto and others starting this coming year. We are both local and global. To involve this global audience we hope to soon start online seminars (webinars) so that those around the globe can join in what is an essential dialogue for our century.

Core Values.

21st Century Network is a group for those who believe that we need to develop a new form of humanism that includes people of all religions and none but who embrace humanistic values as the basis of their actions. These are values of global compassion, personal self-discovery, shared development, planetary concern and a love of community.
