"The band Kadman has been kicking around Baltimore for the last couple years in a few different incarnations, usually as a trio with a rhythm section accompanying singer/guitarist David Manchester. But perhaps the most exciting lineup of Kadman to date is its current one, with Manchester being backed only by multi-instrumentalist Dan Cohan, one half of the awesome Baltimore instrumental duo the Water. The new two-piece Kadman made its Washington debut on Tuesday, a few nights after its first show in Baltimore, and even if it was the smallest lineup of the band yet in terms of head count, its sound is bigger than ever. Cohan brought along much of the gear he uses with the Water, including a drum set, a guitar, looping pedals, and even his own lighting rig. For some songs, he’d play one instrument or the other, but usually he’d play drums for one part of the song, loop it, and then layer rhythm guitar over Manchester’s own playing, often building up to a beautiful squall of sound. These Old Bones was recorded over a period of several months starting in June, 2009, with Matthew Leffler-Schulman at Mobtown Studios in Baltimore, MD. The album is not so much a departure from Sing To Me Slower as it is an evolution, both in songwriting and experimentation. Kadman's stellar attention to sonic detail while keeping a downtempo pop sensibility begins to reveal elements of Antony and the Johnsons and Sun Kil Moon, leaving the listener with a truly original record that is both chilling and comforting. This record has the rare quality of being both dense and dreamy, intense and delicate, haunting and beautiful. It is these contrasting dichotomies that make These Old Bones such a joy to listen to-to let go and just listen. ABOUT THE BAND

KADMAN originated as the project of David Manchester, a singer/songwriter armed with the influences of contemporary artists such as Iron & Wine, Mark Kozelek, Nick Drake and Elliot Smith. After seven years performing solo & acoustic, David has joined forces with his brother Mitch, on bass and drummer Matt Smith to expand the sound of KADMAN. Influenced by the minimalist beauty of Low and the droning shoegazer elements of Yo La Tengo, the trio experiments with guitar loops and textures and continue to evolve into what is described as neo-american sadcore.

Kadman's sophmore album, These Old Bones, is now available on The Beechfields Music label. These Old Bones was recorded over a period of several months starting in June, 2009, with Matthew Leffler-Schulman at Mobtown Studios in Baltimore, MD. The album is not so much a departure from Sing To Me Slower as it is an evolution, both in songwriting and experimentation.
