Animals, animal welfare, Salukis, Hula, Kung Fu, fiction, serious writing, the Hawaiian language and culture, Native American issues, vegetarianism, sustainable living, organic food, liberalism, freedom, manga, anime, video games (especially Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Zelda games,) movies, music, exotic plants ... I'll probably think of a ton more later, but that'll do for now.
Music
Taking Back Sunday, 30 Seconds To Mars, Lo Fidelity Allstars, Leathermouth, The Used, Muse... I listen to a lot of Hawaiian music like the Makaha Sons, Keali'i Reichel, Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu, Kekuhi Kanahele and the like, but I also love the 90's Seattle music, Vanessa Mae, Mozart (especially the Requiem Mass,) Leonard Cohen (LOVE!) Nick Cave, Talking Heads, and also some Japanese music, from traditional / cultural ancient songs to J-pop and soundtracks. Really just a little bit of everything, except for country music. For the most part, I don't enjoy country music.
Movies
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Quills, Shallow Grave, Iron Man, Donnie Darko, Advent Children, The Usual Suspects, Lilo and Stitch, Spirited Away, Arsenic and Old Lace, Howl's Moving Castle, Jet Li's Fearless, The Truman Show, Fargo, Kung Fu Hustle, Kung Pow - Enter the Fist, Young Frankenstein, Requiem For A Dream, V for Vendetta, Velvet Goldmine, Star Wars, The Godfather, Pirates of the Caribbean, Endless Waltz, Mononoke Hime, Millennium Actress, The Lost Boys, almost anything with Jackie Chan.
Television
House, and Buffy and X Files reruns and DVDs. That's about it.
Books
Too many to name, really. It would be a list of hundreds. Briefly, though, I like: almost anything by Shakespeare; In Search of Schrodinger's Cat (a cool book on quantum reality); Jane Eyre; Wuthering Heights; Wide Sargasso Sea; The Great Train Robbery; Pele and Hi'iaka (a story in Hawaiian chant); Wicked; Peter Pan (the original by JM Barrie); Captain Hook - The Adventures of a Notorious Youth; Pigs In Heaven; most anything by Stephen King but especially the Gunslinger series; the Harry Potter series; and many different manga from Japan.
Heroes
My family, all of my Kumu Hula (hula teachers) who are completely inspirational, my Kung Fu Lao Shir, Sifu, and various Sehing and Sije, Rosa Parks and pretty much anyone who stands up for human rights in the face of racism, sexism, fascism, other -isms and phobias. Janeane Garofalo, because she's awesome and beautiful. Eleanore of Aquitaine, also, and Dorothy Parker, just for her snarky wit. Err, and Luke Skywalker. *coughcough*
The song you hear is Pua Tuberose by Ale'a. I'm amazed I found it here. This was one of the first Hulas I learned at a seminar. Actually I believe it was my very first seminar Hula, about nine years ago, taught by Kumu Sonny Ching.
^_^
As for me, I am currently back in school for acupuncture, and working for a Masters degree in science and doctorate in Oriental medicine. I am also a professional Hula-Polynesian dancer (obviously,) wildlife rehabber, and Kung Fu student (green sash, I started in 2/05) out here on the East end of the Beautiful Island of Long. I love my family and my friends and my pets (two dogs, a crow and various birds.) I consider my Kung Fu family to be real family as well, and I value them a great deal.
I'm one of those folks who does things, if you know what I mean. If I talk about wanting to try something, I usually end up getting it done. I love writing stories, and my ambition right now is to get my first manuscript published.
I love working with animals, and I've worked with such crazy things as dolphins and penguins, but mostly my main interest is birds. I love songbirds, corvids and raptors especially and I do a lot of rehab work with them. I think that even if (when!) I get that book of mine published, I will probably still continue to work with animals on a volunteer basis.
I also enjoy drawing, but I'm not very good at it. I love to swim and go to the ocean, and try my luck at surfing once in a while. When I'm not doing any of the above, I'm either reading, watching a good movie, or searching the internet for odd pages. One of my silly hobbies is making AMVs and home movie-music videos. Yeah, total geek here.
Also, I'm partly of Native American descent, Native American issues mean a lot to me. If I hear one more Pocahontas joke I will punch someone. :P
If you came looking for me through Hula connections and are interested in hiring us, Na Wahine O Ka Mokupuni Lo'ihi are available for hire for parties, lu'aus, benefits, festivals, and any other family oriented function. We are a professional, highly trained Polynesian dance troupe. Message me here for more info if you are interested or please see our MySpace profile (it's in my friends list.)
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet, umm... Jackie Chan? ;D And Leonard Cohen, he seems like he'd be such an awesome person to meet.
Oh, do you mean in real life? Hmm. First let me get this out of the way, because I can't stress it enough: bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists etc. honestly NEED NOT APPLY. Really. Truly. Don't bother. I'm also not interested in hunters, snobs, fundies, right-wing conservatives, or zealots or any kind.
In general, I like people who are fun, stable without being uptight, non-judgemental and open without being transients or flakes. Hygiene is of utmost importance to me. I guess I just like fun, interesting people who don't hate on others because of color, gender, status or religion. (Or, you know, the fact that an adult woman still plays video games, writes cheesy time-travel adventure stories, and has a fake lightsaber. Geeks are people too! ;D )
I am not here looking for a husband or a relationship. I am happy doing things by myself if that's where I am. But I always welcome cool people into my life. :)

You need to hold him down and shave him...all that hair bothers me! And I'll have my husband talk to your husband, RDJ knows all about having public meltdowns *g* I know, Chrissie keeps telling me to get a Facebook and I keep saying I'll do it but I haven't gotten around to it yet...maybe this weekend!
I forgot I even had that!! I'll have to start that up again and actually keep it up this time. Maybe tonight when the kiddies go to bed I can work on it:)
I started to every day again and now I try to but sometimes I don't have time or I forget about it. I want to try to get back to every day like I used to though :)
He has a notebook for all of that stuff and he even uses it as a journal...it's funny watching him run to write something down that comes to his mind...reminds me of how we used to be:)
I have to tell you a funny story!! We took the kids to the light show in Holtsville as a surprise and Zach kept asking and asking "Where are we going?" So I said to Wayne quietly, but obviously not quietly enough, Hell in a handbasket. Well, Zach heard me and his eyes get all big and he goes "Ohhhhh Hell in a handbasket!!!" Like it was his favorite place to be. Then twenty minutes later when I thought he had forgotten all about it Miranda asks me if she can take her jacket off. Zach turns to her and says "Fine but when we get to Hell in a handbasket you have to put it back on" I was laughing so hard I had tears coming from my eyes LMAO
