Oreo looked down into the puddle that she stood at the edge off. The water rippled and she looked up and around worried. She let out another whine and took off to hide in a bush, pressing herself in as far as she could. The puppy went quiet as she waited for whatever it was to pass.
But when he returned the pup had wandered off looking for a rock to turn over. She let out a whine after almost an hour of searching. Her ears folded back against her head and she kept walking.
Oreo scratched at the tree again and gave a low whine. Her ears pulled back and she pushed off the tree. She hung her head slightly and walked off hoping to find a rock or something that would be easier to push over and find something to eat. Her stomach growled louder than her whines, she was hungry and wished she could just be back with her mom and brothers.
Oreo had spent the night sleeping fixed under a crosshatch of tree roots. Her body was stiff and sore as she woke up. She let out a whine as she stretched her tiny imbs. The puppy licked her small chops as she set out to find a dead tree and look for the grubs her brothers had once called tasty.
It didn't take her long to find one no it was just a matter of getting into the tree and getting the grubs. She whined and scratched at the tree's protective bark, her claws still not sharp enough to tear the dead bark away.
