Bio
"Oh, oh I know I'm not the only one who thinks we can all agree That this world can be an ugly place/Today it's so beautiful to me I saw the right things on the wrong side of the street/ And I've got everything, everything I need." - - "Everything I Need," Josh Tatum "I make music for the love of making music. It is a part of me and always will be. My ultimate goal is to make a positive impression on the world in some way and to make people see their true potential." That's gifted singer/songwriter Josh Tatum, bringing us with him into his inner world, where nothing matters but the music. Josh's album "Everything" (Hideaway Entertainment) is set for a March 27 release, and its first single is already gaining massive inroads at HOT AC radio. Josh is planning to constantly tour to support the album and garner new fans as well as entertain the ones he already has. Josh describes his music as "Eclectic, soulful, passionate, timeless and deep," and his musical influences range from Eric Clapton, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, to Tupac Shakur. Josh continues, "Creating music comes very naturally to me and its really all I've ever really felt like doing. Something about the experiences that it brings when being out in the world sharing it with people and performing it with your best friends. My music is my story. I want to put my life in songs." Born and raised in Texas, Josh knew he wanted to be a musician from the time he was a little boy. "While we were in Midland, TX when I was very little, my parents got me into some piano lessons and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't until my grandfather bought me an electric guitar when I was in the first grade that I took an interest in guitar. After that, the rest is history! I was really into skateboarding and the punk rock scene stuff in my younger days, hence the reason why I started my first band in the 7th grade. Pop-punk stuff. I think the combination of the guidance and the freedom that my family gave me to explore my interests at very young age is one of the main reasons I got into making music. I never really wanted a 'normal' life and I realized that at very young age. I always felt like there was so much to do and explore and music was the best way for me to get out and create something that would develop and change as I did." Josh is finishing up the first leg of his tour and has three more to come. How does it feel for Josh to play his personal music in front of a live audience? "It always feels good to see people singing the lyrics to the songs I've written and enjoying the music. It's not like any other feeling. "My shows tend to really be an 'experience,'" Josh continues. "It's an emotional ride. Not only do the songs come from my life, but the guys performing them with me are bringing everything they've got." The single "Everything I Need" is making a splash at radio, and its accompanying video is a must-see (links to follow). "This is a song that I wrote about leaving the 'bubble' and jumping into the real world. When I left Ft Worth for Los Angeles, I experienced a lot of craziness…situations that the mainstream (middle-upper class Americans) might call dangerous and might not approve of. The truth is, no matter where you're from or what you believe in, the world (even in America believe it or not!) is a pretty messed up place in the way people treat each other. So many people look down on so many people. This song is about dropping any social class that you might feel entitled to represent or classify yourself in and being nothing more than 1 person in the world. It's about being grateful for the air in your lungs and the sun in the sky. This is a song about truly looking at yourself and realizing that no matter how bad it gets, life is good." The potential second single, "Wasted," "…is a song that I wrote at a time that I felt really lonely. I had just gotten surgery on my arm was basically at home in a sling. I was sitting around drinking beer and playing guitar. I wrote from the perspective of a down and out/washed up super hero! If you listen to the lyrics in the verses, they refer to different super powers that I used to have. It's almost like a sad country song turned reggae. It's really a song about hurting and overcompensating with substance abuse." Josh's future plans are both attainable and lofty at the same time, but if anyone can make them happen, it's the tenacious Josh Tatum. "Short term, I want to make an even better follow-up record. I want to reach the Top Ten on the radio charts. I'd like to get my busted strat and my acoustic guitar fixed. I want to make an acoustic record. It would be cool to even appear in a movie!" For the long term, Josh reveals, "I want to become a better songwriter each year. I want to perform in as many countries as possible, and have more than one #1 record. I'd love to produce another artist who becomes successful. I want to buy my parents a lake house. I want to write a script/make a movie. But especially, I want to influence people to be good to each other." Josh has everything it takes to make most of the above happen. One listen to his debut album and his passion is infectious. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -
