Michael's Interests
|
| General | New technologies; heavy wood acoustic guitar music (Antoine Dufour, Eric Roche, Don Ross, Andy McKee, Preston Reed); bass guitar playing (I was originally a bass player);science fiction; microbiology (OK, I'm a geek); biowarfare (I consult for certain groups) art; cooking; wines; history of modern warfare; the spy games of the 60's; Christian apologetics | | Music | I am an avid fan of the blues. But I also like music with an edge, i.e. Joe Satriani. I play (well, sort of) the acoustic guitar (Langjans & a 1970 Martin D35) and I favor Antoine Dufour, Eric Roche, Don Ross, Andy McKee, Thomas Leeb, Preston Reed, Michael Hedges, and James Taylor. I used to be a professional bass guitar player and learned to play by listening to Jack Bruce & Cream. Favorite players are Jack Bruce, Stu Hamm, Billy Shehan, Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, and Pino Paladino. | | Movies | Favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the first movie in the Matrix series, all three Jason Bourne movies, the Italian Job, and the Shooter-I'm fascinated by snipers. | | Television | I don't watch it much. Mostly sports. I love the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. I'm originally from Chicago so I'm also a Bears fan...even if they are disappointing. | | Books | Anything by Lee Childs, Robert Ludlum, Jack Higgins, Jim Butcher (Harry Dresden Series) & R.A. Salvatore. | | Heroes | Jesus |

About me:
Howdy,
I am an unrepentant science, art, and wine geek, although I did try, unsuccessfully, to have a geekectomy a few years back. I've studied both science and art and have a doctorate in microbiology. Professionally, I am Vice President of Science and Technology for a biotechnology company and have seven patents and numerous professional publications on subjects guaranteed to cure insomnia. I'm a world traveler, constantly searching for the best cup of coffee to accompany my voracious reading habit, which has been recently exacerbated by the gift of Kindle for my birthday. I've written two novels: The Angel of Death and the Demon, published in December of 2007, and Rise of the Fallen, published in December 2008, the styles of which could be described as Dean Koontz meets Clive Cussler.
I write a blog, published here on Myspace, that reviews wines under $25.00. Since few people are made of money, it makes more sense to look for good value rather than splurging unecessarily on a $100.00 bottle of the stuff. Especially since there are some very nice wines under $25.00. You can also find my recommendations for restaurants that I review on my travels. Boy, does it make the restaurant nervous when the guy with the silver hair dressed in black is taking notes on his meal!
