Theatre, writing, rewriting, film (and festivals of them, those who make them, a few who talk about them), music, poetry, seizing a full-blooded moment of inspiration and putting that sucker to work, general eclecticism, pacing around the house and elsewhere, various pseudo-cerebral excursions, sushi, thrift stores, $0.99 CDs at Armadillo Records, my undying relationship with clutter, bohemian-style scarves, poaching eggs, idiosyncratic expression, unconventional methods and institutions of education, over-analysis, amassing products of obscure media at bargain prices, my slow sporadic efforts to become more well-read, moderated servings of plum wine, the superfluous use of umlauts, staring at spackled walls, intimate conversations, artful indecision, blood oranges, mobius strips of the mind, leaving long obtuse phone messages, The New Yorker, green tea, public radio.

Music
There's really no way to fully answer this question, but here's an attempt:
Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones(64-74), Carl Orff, Gillian Welch, David Byrne/Talking Heads, Warren Zevon, Rickie Lee Jones, Van Morrison, Beck, Philip Glass, Patti Smith, Primus, Phish, Iron and Wine, Richard Thompson, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Hornsby, Randy Newman, Elvis Costello, The Real Tuesday Weld, k.d. lang, R.E.M., Digable Planets, Wilco, Leo Kottke, The Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Astor Piazzolla, early blues, various global grooves, film scores (those by Thomas Newman and Danny Elfman, prominently), songs with well-utilized hand-clapping. Also: the recordings of performace artists Laurie Anderson, Rinde Eckert and Joe Frank (the latter being strictly spoken word, all three being brilliant beyond words).
I'm currently digging David Singer's albums, "Civil Wars," and "Stars Burn Out."
Movies
The Graduate, Fight Club, Waking Life, This is Spinal Tap, Fitzcarraldo, Benny and Joon, The Good Girl, Annie Hall, Husbands and Wives, Raging Bull, A Clockwork Orange, Jules and Jim, Magnolia, Barfly, After Hours, The Woman Chaser, Cinema Paradiso, Carnal Knowledge, Bob Roberts, Scared New World, O Lucky Man!, Titus, most Coen Brothers films (especially The Man Who Wasn't There, The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink), Crumb, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, and other random documentaries, various short films (quite a slew of them out there, most underappreciated).
Television
The general absence of it. In Treatment.
Books
The Catcher in the Rye, Brave New World, Lolita, The Stranger, Waiting for Godot, A Clockwork Orange, Equus, HAROLD PINTER, Neil LaBute, Raymond Carver short stories, Charles Bukowski (though I have my limits), various books on film (e.g. "Movie Maker's Master Class" by Laurent Tirard) and music (e.g. "Songs in the Key of Z" by Irwin Chusid) and the several hundred others in my possession which I have yet to read.
Heroes
I prefer the term "significant influences":
Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, The Coen Brothers, Julie Taymor, Laurie Anderson, Samuel Beckett, Terry Gross, Joe Frank, Rinde Eckert, Danny Elfman, Harold Pinter, Eric Bogosian, Spalding Gray, Anthony D'Juan, Werner Herzog, Mike Carroll, Steve Buscemi.
If I need any others I'm sure I can just look in the Yellow Pages. Or an R. Crumb book. Whichever's closest.
About me: I shudder to think of how much time I've put into writing these little self-descriptions. Apparently I have some trouble with priorities. I've been known to fit the term "ragamuffin." It's also the opinion of some that I resemble Christina Ricci (particularly during the Wednesday Addams/Mermaids period). So it goes.
Cowardly confessions, or elaborate subterfuge? Eh, whichever...
Who I'd like to meet: You know, it’s hard to answer this question without feeling like some arrogant, elitist asshole, as if my mere acquaintanceship equaled some highly exclusive, highly coveted membership. I mean, who am I to give criteria for those I meet? What if someone who doesn’t meet the criteria (or so believes) reads this and then meets me and thinks, “He really doesn’t want to meet me, so why bother going any further?” Of course, this assumes I’m so memorable as to stand out to anyone who happens to glance upon this. So much for avoiding arrogance. If you’re not immensely irritated by this passage, perhaps we’ll get along. Perhaps the same goes if you are. Who am I to say? Maybe you should just be more decisive than me. Or not.
And a happy belated birthday to you, too. I didn't check my myspace page for a week...and I didn't do anything on my birthday. That's the tragedy of getting older.
