"SOLDIER"

I was that which others did not want to be.
I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do.
I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness ... should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love.
I have cried, pained, and hoped ... but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten.
At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was ... a soldier.
About me: I consider myself a wealthy man. But do not measure it by material items nor the size of my bank account. I have little of either. Nor do I care. I do not care one whit for your so called status or social station. I once did, but no longer, care if you like me or not. Nor do I care if you think I am not good enough for you, or that you "deserve" more.
My wealth comes from the memories I carry in my soul. From the sun kissing the morning hello, to silver, magical moon lit nights in faraway lands that I have stood upon. From the brotherhood, laughter and tears shared by men dedicated to something bigger than themselves. From the sound and hugs of my children. From the echoes of the past to the hope and joy of living another day. From the pain and hardship. From the cold, harsh, searing fear and loneliness of realities not pampered to your fantasy of life. From the demons that haunt me to the warm ,euphoric embrace and sound of a lover when there. My wealth, it was hard earned, and it came with a price. Not measured in dollars, but with scars.
Hey Bud! I am glad you made it home safely! I know the boys are so excited... Let me know if you happen to end up back at Carson.. We have some beer to drink!
Word! So how are ya? I haven't talked to you since the good old hammer days. How is life there treating you guys? Yeah we are still dealing with the 82nd yahoos over here at Falcon. There not much better here then there I'm guessing. Hope everything is good with you.
Hi Mike! You know I was just thinking the other day I needed to catch up with you but have been so snowed under ( both figuratively and literally ) that I did'nt do it. Cool to hear that you don't have too long to go before you're back home with you boys - stay safe meantime and keep an eye on all those bags of bills that are floating about LOL
