In August 2008 Jimmy Carl Black, best know as the original drummer in Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention, was diagnosed with lung cancer. In a bid to help pay for Jimmy’s mounting hospital bills Leaping Cat Records (UK) and Inkanish Records (USA) formed an unconditional bond to help Jimmy Carl Black in his time of need. .. Leaping Cat Records took the role of contacting Musicians from all around the world asking for musical donations for a compilation CD to be compiled by Leaping Cat Records and sold by Inkanish Records with all funds to go to Jimmy Carl Black and his family. The Musicians responded with unconditional love and generosity, the result is a stunning compilation CD entitled Pay The Indian. The album features outstanding music from; .. Jon Larsen - Don Preston and Bunk Gardner - The Wrong Object - Jerry Ford and Derek Dean - Ed Mann - Captain Sensible - RagacatZZ - Southern Comfort - Corky’s Cats - The Moving Tones - Zappatika - Tony Roberts .. All of the above gave their music free, in a glowing example of the true love and respect that musicians across the globe hold for each other. This in itself shows an unprecedented testimony to human kindness. .. Sadly, Jimmy Carl Black passed away the day after the album was completed and never got to hear the finished work. However, he did get to hear the tracks from the album, they were sent to him by Leaping Cat Records as they came in. Jimmy knew that this was happening for him and often stated “I feel the Love ”. Jimmy Carl Black passed away on November 1st 2008 with warmth in his heart and music in his soul knowing that Pay The Indian is now here to help. .. RIP .. His trademark line was "Hi Boys and Girls, I'm Jimmy Carl Black, and I'm the Indian of the group." He has been credited on some Mothers albums as playing "drums, vocals, and poverty". He appeared in the movie 200 Motels and sings the song Lonesome Cowboy Burt. .. He worked as a guest vocalist with Muffin Men, a Frank Zappa tribute band based in Liverpool, England, and with Jon Larsen, on the surrealistic Strange News From Mars project, featuring several other Zappa alumni, such as Tommy Mars, Bruce Fowler, Arthur Barrow. .. At Steely Dan's 2001 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction Walter Becker asked the assembled if they remembered who the original Mothers of Invention drummer was. Becker has unsuccessfully lobbied the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Black's inclusion as a founding member of the Mothers of Invention. ..
