    Freddie Bell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 29th, 1931. From the time he was seven years old, he knew he wanted to be an entertainer, and he made that his life ambition. He began as a bass player, but went on to form The Bellboys in 1952, taking front stage as the lead vocalist. At the end of that same year, The Bellboys began performing a re-written version of the Big Mama Thornton song 'Hound Dog' (Lieber/Stoller). The Bellboys were featured on the regional show 'Bob Horn's American Bandstand' (later going national and hosted by Dick Clark). Their version of 'Hound Dog' remained No. 1 for 16 weeks... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .... .. A few years later, in 1956, Freddie Bell and The Bellboys were performing at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, when a young singer from Tennesee caught the show. He loved Freddie's version of 'Hound Dog' so much that he decided to record the song himself. The rest, as they say, is history. The young singer's name was Elvis Presley, and Freddie Bell's 'Hound Dog' launched him to the top of the charts... .. Freddie Bell passed away on February 10, 2008... .. .. .. .. .. ....
