Book Title Club
This month we will be reading the title of a book written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (a man). Once you have read the title, feel free to discuss.

Here's a mind-bender for you... if you translate the title back into the original Spanish, "Cien Anos de Solitud"...it's still as long, but infinitely more intriguing.
Try reading the first chapter in the original Spanish. If you do it right, it should take approximately 2 weeks to translate it all into conversational English, and another 2 weeks to understand just what the hell is going on.

I work at a library, and let me tell you, if you ever want to be entertained, check out the Romance Novel section. Our favorite title is "The Red-Hot Ranchman" (complete with a picture of the ranchman and his handlebar moustache). But seriously, it sounds to me like maybe this guy should just wear some suncreen.
Another one of my favorites is the title "When She Was Bad," which really gives voice to the unspoken yearnings within all of us, and the journeys we take along the voyages that lead us to the road back to who we were all along in the first place. - Deb4 years ago
Beware books beginning with geneaologies. I prefer Love in the Time of Cholera by the same author. Also enjoyed The Time Traveller's Wife, particularly the parts where the narrator has sexual encounters with his present self present. Tickles the imagination.

I like how the author of this title uses "O" words 40% of the time. It demonstrates his fear of himself. Everyone knows that if you find yourself in the middle of an "O", of any form, you are never alone, because you have yourself, like it or not. If the title was "One Hundred Oreos of Solitude", then I would think differently.

As odd as it sounds, it's probably true...

Adopted Cat Alerts Owner of House Fire
CLINTON, Iowa
Tigger has impeccable timing. The cat alerted its Clinton owner, Carole Behr, to smoke early Tuesday morning, allowing Behr and her daughter just enough time to call 911 and escape from the a fire that destroyed much of their home.
Behr said the cat jumped on her and then sat until she woke up, to find it staring out the door of her bedroom.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue them from a second-story window, Behr said.
Behr and her 15-year-old daughter, Connie Chapman, were not injured. Tigger, who jumped from the window, was also unharmed.
The family adopted the cat last year from the Humane Society.
"I told my daughter, 'See, you saved the cat and now the cat saved you,'" Behr said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
My cat would just look at it as an opportunity to drink from the toilet while I was unable to move.
First off people with cats are weird. That being said I once had a cat that lived in my building. I named him Cleatus because that is just a good cat name. Then I found out that Cleatus was actually a girl. But I called her the same thing. Then I found out that her name wasn't Cleatus at all and she lived with the dude that was under me. I felt used for my milk. Much like I feel many women feel I'm sure. But only ones that don't take their meds after birth, like Brooke Sheilds.
I read this story in people magazine. The best part was that the owner stopped teaching the cat to dial 911 because he thought he might start doing it just to get treats.
What about dogs?
